Hi, my first post here, so sorry if I missed something. I was putting off the latest W10 update because I'm busy and I suspected that it would mess something up. Last night I caved in and allowed it and now, when I try to join a server, I get the usual rF2 splash screen, a flicker.... then nothing/CTD. Any ideas please?
Run the installers in the Support\Runtimes folder (all of them), also try reinstalling DirectX. I feel like there's something else as well... windows updates can sometimes mess those things up. Oh, and (not really anything different, just the same advice): https://forum.studio-397.com/index....0-removes-runtimes-after-major-updates.58239/
Check to see if the router or virus protection is blocking rf2 or even Windows is blocking. Are you the administrator or loving in as a guest and don't have permission ? Ruben
Yeh thanks, but I disabled, then uninstalled my AV with no change. It happened straight after a W10 update so I doubt it's the router. Not sure how to check that. Checked W Firewall settings. I think i gave myself admin privaleges a while ago, dunno how to check that either. I'm not a computer literate really. I'm going back to W7 I reckon. Can't keep spending days at a time fault finding after updates.
The last Windows 10 update, 1803, disabled an old unsafe networking protocol called SMB1, and in doing so made local networking a problem. Here is a link (services.msc) in order to solve this in a safe manner. It is not complicated but read carefully before implementing. Afterwards restart both PCs. https://www.ghacks.net/2018/04/17/f...etwork-after-windows-10-version-1803-upgrade/
Yup, I ran CCleaner on Registry cleaner and it clean some incorrect firewall stuff (can't remember) but no change. I think I had 4 Firewall exceptions, now I have 2 .exe & dedi .exe. I'm now re-installing Steam as a last gasp before wiping my SSD and loading W7.
Have you tried verifying files in steam? Not a PC right now but I think in steam right click rfactor2 select local files and verify.
Have you checked if both computers are set to Private Network ? https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/6815-set-network-location-private-public-windows-10-a.html Another thing we tried was copy the rFMod from the host PC to the other PC and install in Packages.
Hi Niburu, yes I tried that. Looks like I will miss the Aussie Legends race on RD tonight. I will have to find somebody else to be admin.
I'm only using one PC for rF2. I don't have access to the dedi machine. Well I kinda do, but that's a whole other story. I can't join ANY server though. I did get on 3 times, right after I ran the .exe's mentioned in the second post (thanks), but as soon as I shut the launcher down and try again - back to square one. I've tried to repeat this but no dice.
OK I came home from work and rolled back Windows. Hey presto, it got me on track. Plenty to sort out still, but I'm racing again. Thanks to everybody for all your help.
