Sneaky! Interested in seeing what this one will be, considering you had said before that IMS would be the next *major* track. Just wondering, what does 'ribbon' mean, in the context of track building? Is that a term for the road mesh itself, or something else entirely?
I've only ever built tracks for another devs product before I worked for ISI, so there's probably a lot I'm missing. The ribbon is essentially the driving surface. It's laid out flat at first in every product I've seen. You then pull the ribbon up or down to match elevations to whatever data you have, whether that's a laser scan, GPS, geometrical surveys or whatever. To that ribbon, you obviously expand out terrain. Our terrain is mostly solid and can be driven on (or hit), while some sims stop you driving outside the ribbon. To that, you add objects, textures, etc.
Tim Wheatley; These pics are awesome, man. What camera are you using? Must be the expensive model. I've been planning to get me a real camera for a looong time now.
Quite a cheap Nikon D5000. It's a midrange SLR, great starter camera. I got it for $900 with two lenses when the D5000 was new. My uncle got a D5100 for $650 a year later with two lenses.
Amazon sells the D5100 for €430! In Germany at least, but only one lens. The 18-55mm. Should be good enough for a starter, right?
