lol I'm always saying "I'm the driver, not the pit crew!" I'm fairly lazy I'm afraid as I just adapt to the way a car drives stock settings. I fear I would never be competitive online but would love to try anyway.
Given the physics and tyre model is incomplete, it's fruitless working on setups and understand how the car reacts because it's not yet finished. What you will perhaps learn might be wrong or counter-intuitive (it sometimes already is!). So I wouldn't spend too much time on trying to learn what everything does just yet because it may not give you the proper answers....unfortunately.
True, but some of us have done 10000-40000 or more sim laps, and have read up on how to drive etc, so surely we should at least feel in control of the car regardless of how fast we are. The biggest problem for me in FISI is it's yet another rf2 car with a huge power spike, as such, the danger is 1st and 2nd gear, but once you're into 3rd and beyond/further from the breaking point of traction, the car is relatively easy to drive.
Great post Paul....and one only has to drive GSC F1 modern, FVA's F1's, or GTR Evo's 2007 F1 to appreciate sim greatness. ISI did a great job with the F3.5 post b69, all it needs is a little attention on sounds and they'd have another absolutely great sim car in the base package along with F2/3, Megane......if they release those cars + a fixed FISI in the demo, I suspect 100% conversion to purchase as it's as good and often better than any other sim.
The best time I've been able to hammer out at Sepang was 1:47. I've read where those racing online are in the mid 30's. Hence I have not attempted any racing online. Hopefully I'll improve, but I dunno. Only so much time in a day. Might need a senior citizen "cruising" league.
Hang on a sec...I think the best recorded time is 1m35.9.....I've done a 1min39, and could probably do a 38xx with more practice, but I also did a 141 without DRS, so unless you meant 137 instead of 147, somethings very wrong.
I saw someone doing 1.35.7xx My pb is 1.36.1 with default set. On 15 lap stint down from 1.37 high to 1.36.8 But I can't do just a single fast lap in qualy. always have to do a 4-5 lap run to get good times.
The FISI isn't an easy car to drive and hopefully the physics aren't finished so it improves later, but the same skills that allow you to be fast in the megane also apply to the FISI, you'll just have to react quicker and be more gentle. 10-12s off the pace means you don't know how to drive a sim car, so see if you can find some reading material on how to drive a race car....I did when I was starting out and it made an immediate difference, and this is a game where practice by itself is useless without the technique. That said, I assume, you've dropped throttle sensitivity down from 100 to maybe 10-20...?
I've been out of the loop for awhile (5ish months) and just now was able to install ISI FM with all the new beta updates. Good stuff I must say. I like how the car feels now and how DRS works. However, I've looked around some (here and Google) and cannot seem to find a straight answer to Paul's question about KERS. Is KERS available or not? If yes, then what am I missing in the controller setup? If not, will it be at some point? Thanks and sorry if I awoke a beaten down dead horse. JJ
ATM kers isn´t available, but AFAIK it comes to formula ISI by an update later on. The question is when!
In my view it is both condescending and innacurate to make posts that belittle sim drivers as "not being pro drivers so what do you expect" etc. The "Pro drivers" are human beings who put their trousers on one leg at a time. They are not imbued with superhuman powers. A gamer with thousands of laps in a given simulation may in fact have many more race laps under his belt than the "Pro driver". I seem to recall that AJ Almendinger (real life indy car winner) raced many times against Gregor Hutu (top sim racer) and never having got close to him looked up to him as Yoda. So in my view the sim racer is the expert at sim racing.
This is one aspect which was being neglected from the very first simulator. You're NOT intending to be an engineer, team principal, aerodynamics specialist, tyres Doc., and etc. There's tool for it, including Motec Tools for simulators, but still... it takes so huge time! I think the idea is to be a virtual driver, for most of customers. So, the car must be drivable from the very beginning (eg. good default setups) and the driving feedback inputs should head the fine setup tunning. What happens is, for the cars treated here (FM), the stock setup is quite awful, the rear-end is loose, unstable on breaking, wrong toe-out settings and so on. And you're alone to fix all of this, so you have to read the books, setups spreadsheets and do the whole team's job. It's unrealistic.
The front tyres should be divergent (don't know if it's the correct English word, I'm sorry) and, on the track, they're acting like were convergent. At least they turn as being the right side of the picture below.
Correct is toe out setup, in contrast to a regular street car (toe in - right side on image above). Toe-out increases the tyre wear, causes a poor straight line control and screws the top speed a bit, but helps a lot when you're turning in. It looks like ISI FM has too much turn-in, which causes a loose rear. Thus, you have to zero or opt for a toe-in setup, which seems make no sense for me.
