Rfactor2 The VR thread -settings & tips

If you check your registry, Oculus is always running. As a Vive owner, I'm not sure exactly what else you need running, but I know from experiments using ReVive, that installing the Oculus drivers means you have 2 processes always running even if you never open Home (or even have the VR turned...

Rfactor 2 future: Should we (or just I) be worried?

That's probably not a fair statement. Physics, algorithms, knowledge... all of these things naturally improve with time. ISI always acknowledged that. In fact, I'm sure I read interviews where Tim said it was as much art as it was science (necessitated by how incomplete certain knowledge was)...

Yeah. I don't really totally understand it, but I guess it has to do with the way the optics warp things. They render at a higher resolution because there's a greater cluster of pixels in the center of your view. So they say it's done to match the pixel density there. I think the DK2 was 1.4X...

I'm not sure how Oculus SS works. Is that on top of the base multiplier? I know both the Vive and Rift render at 1.4X the resolution as their base. So with the Vive, 1.0 is really still 1.4X. And 1.6X would be 2160 X 1200 X 1.4 X 1.6 = 4838 X 2688. If that's what you're running, it's quite a bit...

Ideally these next gen headsets will also use foveated rendering/eye tracking to cut down on the rendering requirements. That's also ignoring the fact that most people tend to use lots of super sampling on current headsets to get rid of the awful jaggies. So it's not like most aren't already...

Samsung showed off some next gen VR OLED screens a couple days ago. This reddit thread has some nice comparison shots. That (lack of) screen door:p https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/6e3b9v/samsung_booth_at_display_week_2017_with_sde/

I have the same issue. My eyes just get chewed up by constant monitor use. And it doesn't help that I don't blink enough when I get tense. The more relaxed focal distance with VR definitely is easier on my eyes vs more monitor usage.

Somebody posted some observations a while ago and I never posted them here. I expanded on them a bit by doing my own tests. I'm not sure it extends to our Rift brothers, but for Vive owners, the COMPOSITOR renderTargetMultiplier actually does impact your performance some. What is COMPOSITOR...

Ultimately, this is where I ended up on all issues like these. It's unfortunate that junk has to populate the pool, but when you build up gatekeepers, it also creates issues. Just have to hope that there's a decent rating system and the cream rises to the top.

Just re-iterating, with the Vive, always on reprojection still runs at 90fps: https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/53j4v3/til_always_on_reprojection_looks_way_better_than/d8237fx/ It's interleaved reprojection that's awful and drops you to 45 fps. Valve did a very poor job naming and...

Yeah. I mean, at this point, you're best to just take Nvidia claims when they launch new cards as entertainment and comedy. Every card they hold a major press conference with amazing claims that always turn out to be a bunch of nothing. I still buy their cards for the obvious reasons, but I feel...

    ETA for dx11 update?

What do you guys even use for beta opt in? I know the normal option with Steam is to opt in/out of betas. But with rF2, all I get as options are a bunch of previous beta versions (there's like six or seven older betas). I assume they're going to add a new version to this list and I'll have to...

Cost and comfort I assume? Vive wins in larger FOV and brightness. I'm only pointing this out because I think it's helpful when someone says one is generally better than the other. This is objectively false. There is no clear cut, superior choice.

Especially the optics. The new consumer HMDs have much larger sweet spots that give you a much larger area of clear focus. The DK2 really only has has a very narrow cone where things are in focus.
