I have not changed anything on my PC but for the last few days I cannot get the launcher to go into the game. I have tried running in 32 bit, deleted the config and JSON ini's. I have tried to run the exe as admin. I have deleted shaders and CBASH. I have deleted plugins. I have verified file integrity. I have updated my graphics driver. It goes into developer mode and picks up the server list in MP, but will not launch the game in single or MP modes. What else can I do? Thanks in advance.
Try deleting the rFactor2.exe (naming may be different, not at PC now) and verify the game files again.
Try it with renaming the player.json file in the folder F:\Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\UserData\player from player.json into player_backup.json, then start the game and let it generate a new player.json file. Maybe that helps.
I now only have a player.TMP file because I deleted the JSON file Bernd, so not sure what I should do. Thanks for the input.
Another thing I have found out. If I run the config exe in BIN32, I get multiple error messages of "Failed to load advancedeffects file". Any other pointers out there?
Just to be sure. You have deleted the player.json file, started the game, then the game crashes or don't starts and then you have a player.temp file only, no player.json? I have seen that you say that you already has tried to run rfactor 2 as administrator. Did you do it this way? Start steam only and don't start rfactor 2 from steam. Delete the player.json file again. Then go to the folder Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\Launcher, rightclick on the Launch rFactor.exe and select run as administrator. If you have not done it this way before, please try out if it helps.
Hi Bernd You are correct but I did not run it as administrator as you say. I shall try again now and see if that works. Thanks. EDIT: Sorry Bernd, still not working.
I have no more ideas now, sorry. And the below, that you have posted, happens here too, if i try to start the config exe directly. I would say that the Config exes have to be started from the launcher, to run properly.
My suggestion would be to assign admin rights to steam before installing rF2 and leave rF2 executables as they are installed.
using rF2 steam version... - steam have to be running in the background, when you`re starting the the rF2 launcher from the folder - video settings config.exe (afaik) isnt running outside the launcher
