    Hi,

    Since I updated dev mode to build 494, it refuses to start. It just shows a black screen for a few seconds and then minimizes automatically. Any ideas?

    Happened to me...I removed the contents of "userdata" and all was well again...apart from having to mess with all the settings again

    I tried also removing the "userdata" folder under "ModDev" and same thing happens. I generated a trace file, took a look into it and got this error over and over again:

    hwinput.cpp 713: Problem acquiring keyboard, hr=-2147024891
    hwinput.cpp 709: Couldn't get keyboard device state (f1), hr=-2147024884

    Obviously, computer keyboard works properly.

    The only video-related errors are these ones:

    vidman.cpp 1429: Trying to Play Bink File: C:\Users\Roberto\Documents\rFactor2\ModDev\Options\MODMode\ISILogo.bik
    MovieMan.cpp 120: Error locating video file C:\USERS\ROBERTO\DOCUMENTS\RFACTOR2\MODDEV\OPTIONS\MODMODE\ISILOGO.BIK
    MovieMan.cpp 120: Error locating video file C:\USERS\ROBERTO\DOCUMENTS\RFACTOR2\MODDEV\OPTIONS\MODMODE\ISILOGO.BIK
    vidman.cpp 1429: Trying to Play Bink File: C:\Users\Roberto\Documents\rFactor2\ModDev\Options\MODMode\TestingMOD.bik
    MovieMan.cpp 120: Error locating video file C:\USERS\ROBERTO\DOCUMENTS\RFACTOR2\MODDEV\OPTIONS\MODMODE\TESTINGMOD.BIK
    MovieMan.cpp 120: Error locating video file C:\USERS\ROBERTO\DOCUMENTS\RFACTOR2\MODDEV\OPTIONS\MODMODE\TESTINGMOD.BIK
    vidman.cpp 1429: Trying to Play Bink File: C:\Users\Roberto\Documents\rFactor2\ModDev\Options\MODMode\PreGame.avi
    MovieMan.cpp 130: Error opening AVI file C:\USERS\ROBERTO\DOCUMENTS\RFACTOR2\MODDEV\OPTIONS\MODMODE\PREGAME.AVI
    MovieMan.cpp 130: Error opening AVI file C:\USERS\ROBERTO\DOCUMENTS\RFACTOR2\MODDEV\OPTIONS\MODMODE\PREGAME.AVI

    Any other ideas? :mad:

    Is there a way to turn it off when devmode is not running?

    Maybe it is worth a try to delete the config.ini (gfx settings) for devmode. You should find the file in the rFactor Core directory "\ModDev\UserData" for builds 590 and later, or, if the folder is write protected, in the Virtual Store (C:\Users\WindowsUserName\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\program files\rfactor2).

    I deleted it and no change. Game recreates config.ini, black screen and minimizes. Thanks for the tip, anyway.

    Uninstalled and deleted all files.

    Clean install of content build: Core going to the default, data and settings going to a folder on another partition.

    Sim starts fine in single player.

    Install 600 SDK.

    Try to open but back to desktop I go!!

    Why don't you try to copy the Config.ini from Core or Data over ModDev ... maybe it's an invalid video mode that it's not allowing you to go.

    That is what I thought to start with as I had the same kind of thing happen on first start when I forgot to configure my graphics. Either I copied the config.ini to the wrong place, or it just doesn't work.

    Alright then ... just to be sure use Process Monitor to confirm that ModDev is calling the right config file.
    My installation is fresh (2 days ago) and I've 3 config.ini in different locations :\

    Completely new install (to default locations)

    Lite build 660.

    Config graphics.

    Install a car and a track.

    Start single player, go to a practice session, fine, exit.

    Install SDK 660.

    Config graphics to make sure.

    Run Devmode, back to desktop I go with the process still running in the background. Every attempt to retrieve it from the taskbar is a temporary black screen then back to desktop.

    Contents of config.ini:

    Trace log from starting up mod dev:

    ATI 5770.

    I have admin on this user account plus checking the run as admin with no difference.

    Do you have the keyboard bit as well?

    I am using a Saitek USB keyboard.

    Excellent, then please do me a last favor, open your Windows Task Manager and search the process CCC.exe (it's the Catalyst Control Center) if it's running then end this process.

    I don't have rF2 installed on default folders but I've found that in my rig the config.ini is located in different folders as follows:

    rFactor2 = H:\Backup\rFactor2\UserData\Config.ini
    ModDev = C:\Program Files (x86)\rFactor2\Config.ini

    Maybe I'm wrong but installing with default paths could be like:

    rFactor2 = C:\Program Files (x86)\rFactor2\UserData\Config.ini
    ModDev = C:\Program Files (x86)\rFactor2\Config.ini

    So please copy the config from the rFactor2's path to the moddev, and I'm asking you to do this again because I'm suspicious about your previous post where your config says:

    VideoMode=11

    That value corresponds to the default just after instalation.

    I have an ATI installed in my pc, and I've got issues with the keyboard using ModDev previously, doing some google's research a few apps where affected with the same issue. Ending the "CCC" process have worked for me and my keyboard now works in moddev. So this also should solve the errors reported in your trace.

    Godspeed :)

    That's because there seems to be a wrinkle with the B660 SDK were you can end up with it creating 2 config.ini files. On 1st run it creates a config.ini in the root folder and when you make any changes in the 'Video Res' tab it then saves to the correct place in ModDev\UserData.
