So ISI are now saying this was never a beta .... and the mods waited for "gold" on there own will.

yet we was to "understand" this was a beta version and what a beta version is..... ....

If you understand what a beta version is, and would like to make an early purchase of rFactor 2 to get involved in the testing process, we have now made available the beta in our forums.
    01/11/12

are we still in beta or not if not when did we leave beta?

Interesting statement... was this a personal interpretation or is this coming from somewhere?
Tim has (as far as I'm concerned, and as mentioned in other replies) been very clear about the change from Beta and even his opinions about how it all happened.

Everyone needs to let this go unless there is some practical reason for needing to know status. The fact is that ISI continues to dig themselves into a hole trying to save face, ironically. They are proud and have some management challenges. That's OK. This is still the best sim ever by far. Modders are the ones who should be asking the questions since they a) want to avoid re-work and b) are not going to wait forever for rF2 to be ready. The good news is that there is currently no competition and ISI knows this.

Guys, we are still in the "beta" phase of things and the yearly subscriptions are still in neutral until the announcement and release of gold. The post that is being referred to that "Tim said we are not in beta anymore" is where Tim explained that he had changed the forum a little so he wouldn't have to later on when it came out of beta.

ISI removed pretty silently at some time the "stamp" BETA. (even though there was no major build release)
From there on it was called "in constant developement".

ISI does not stick to commonly used terminology and that's why these discussion always end up in a verbal fight between happy and non-happy customers...

Some people say that it feels like beta, other say that it's still the best sim out there. (and under constant developement)

ISI seems as well to consider rF2 to be "beta" as the yearly subscription model has not started yet.

If I had to choose between the words "GOLD" or "BETA", I would definitely say it's still beta. Obviously this depends on your perception of wanted/needed quality and features.

On the other side: it's 50€... and it will certainly bring you lots fun if you like hardcore sim racing... even if you there are still some flaws...

After this statement: let the verbal fight begin....

The only thing that will ever make sense regarding this is if ISI begins marketing rF2, and I mean heavily, once the online subscription period begins. If this doesn't happen, then they will need to adjust one or the other because there will still be no one online so subscription will be useless.

Well if we judge the game for all what it is missing in the graphic aspect (rain and effects, lighting -the sun doesn´t look like finished to me-, particle effects -Do I need to talk about spray effect?- , the amount of cars and tracks that are in the making, the way some cars change physics or overall feeling when we are talking about tyre model and an update come for a mod, optimization in some cases (not mine), some HDR problems in some mods every time ISI release a new build.

To me this is still in beta.

Don´t get me wrong this is the best simulator for me by far, real road and tyre model are a masterpiece. But the game is not finished and doesn´t feel like it yet.

I´m very critic with the things I like the most and If I say something "bad" is because I want that to be better in the future or fixed.

One thing that could be better are the textures in all ISI tracks (at least in the layout and pianos). When you try one of the tracks by "Feels3" or "Tutte" and then you "come back" to try one of the ISI tracks, it just feels way different...like they were old tracks or something similar. The layouts are great and really accurate and all the buildings and details but the texturing needs a rework to my eyes. It just takes me off of the immersion.

Also one thing to point out, in my case I am not using old re-converted rFactor tracks because I don´t like the feeling of playing the first rFactor again.
This is rFactor 2 and it should look and feel different in all possible ways. I like those tracks that were made from scratch (like Texas World Speedway...that´s the way to go...not the "fast" way of convert stuff just to have more)

Sorry if I sound mean to ISI and modders in general...I like the work that everyone put in their conversions and such, but man, this is a new simulator...If I want to play the first rFactor I have it already installed with tons of tracks and mods. The feeling of driving is way better and realistic in rFactor 2 I understand, but still...everytime I see old content in it, it just hurts my eyes.

    Just some constructive criticism. ;)

(I should made a new topic with all this...but people will hate me for sure...I am as much fan as all of you or even more)

He may have been clear about it, but if I remember correctly, he posted the announcement in another thread. It might have eliminated some of the confusion about it if it was posted in its own thread, not snuck in a 10 page thread.

Wha? For some, this thread will be the first they have heard about it, and it may be big news, considering that modders have stated in the past that they will not mod for a beta. It was easy to miss this news since it was posted in a lengthy thread about something else.

Who cares? Why does it matter?

It is what it is, and it is what it was, and it is what it will always be! Got that?

The game is clearly still in beta. With so many things either not yet fully implemented or not present at all, it can't be anything else.

Not that it matters, but this game isn't a full release yet.

clear dialogue from the start would've avoided any confusion and these endless threads, we did tell ISI, but they prefer their silence to work on the Sim!
