Since I saw this sometime at the 70s, Lesmo became a household name for me. the story is, if you enter Lesmo without brakes, you are dead! Driving it in sims, this judgment became obvious. comic by Guido Crepax.
Targa Florio is nice too, what? It is almost constantly turning, does not count as a corner? Bummer, can't pick which corner is best there, them all are so nice and devilish in their own way.
Hmm maybe it would be better to restrict this thread to permanent racing circuits - every public road that is/was used for racing has some nasty corner because 1) it wasn't designed for racing in the first place and 2) especially the old long tracks like Targa or Pescara have so many corners that obviously some of them will be hard. Choosing 1 of those really isn't possible
so what is a permanent racing circuit. Spa? No. Silverstone? No. Monza? No. Sebring? No. Imola? No. just kidding of course, I understand your point (btw Targa may be the most untouched track atm, as you cannot move a village lolol)
Hehe it's a bit tricky to name it correctly. What about a race circuit that is *not* used as a public road. Still has exceptions like monaco or macau, but it's more specific
But what about circuits like Adelaide then Because that pit section isn't used as public road (well, at least not as far as I know ). And then on that note where do you draw the line, because the singapore sling for one doesnt exist as a public road (at least I hope that that isn't the actual line one has to take on a junction in singapore ). So while it is on public road, the actual corner doesn't exist as that EDIT :: So talking about ARTIFICIAL corners on street circuits, that are purely created for racing
Also corner don't need to be hard to be someone favorite, but of course many like from challenge of making corner perfectly, there are also other things that can make corner to be favorite, maybe even some scenery. I think it was Porsche Unleashed where after a corner you came to sort of bridge and there was some kind of waterfall, I thought that to be quite nicely made place, Also Race King's rally track had one tight left hander just before bridge, some vegetation there to mask visibility, can't count how many times I crashed to that stone bridge wall end, despite speed at that place being slow, there was nicely placed bumps if I don't remember completely wrong. Those were visually very nice places and even visuals are not the important thing for me, I can see how one could prefer some corner because of visual feedback.
I can't quite believe a thread about favorite turns has turned into a debate about the rules of picking favorite turns... Oh wait, no, I'm not surprised.
Yes, it is our unmatched ability of steering clear from subject and unparalled ability to pick a fight over most meaningless little things that makes your day, every day, just imagine how boring and dull your days would be without these wonderful personalities here
Of course, that's what we all love. I think this thread is one of the cleaner, I read about lots of interesting corners and opinions here
