So, I just upgraded to Windows 10. I did some driver re-installs and the usual. Then it was time to test my wheel. Found out I had to get the latest Fanatec beta driver. After doing that I booted up rFactor 2. Everything worked perfectly. Though, somehow, I felt like I had better control over the vehicles I was using. I've put a lot of hours into rFactor 2, and I know how it feels. The FR 3.5 just felt... better. Though I didn't have any specific lap times to compare it to. So I decided to give the skip barber a try. I know that on any average day I'll record a 1.03-1.01 on limerock in the skippy. So I booted that combo up. Boom, first lap, with a pretty major mistake I hit 1.00.5. Wow. That's a significant improvement. Next lap, 59 seconds. That's a definite improvement. Now, I am not saying everyone will see these kinds of changes. But obviously something in my setup wasn't working properly before...
Probably you have been racing Rf2 with windowed mode. With windowed mode you have OS level vsync forced and OS interface running in background. Not sure about Windows 10, but Microsoft made some improvements to aero in Windows 8 to make it more lightweight.
I'm planning to upgrade too in the next few days. Are there fps improvements in rFactor compared to windows 7 or 8?
i just installed new fanatec driver(W7 here) and the FR3.5 seems better through the wheel, whether I had been going the wrong way with my wheel settings I'm not sure? ,maybe placebo?
Yes spin. First read about it on their Facebook page. Used the desktop program to check for latest driver .
Windows 10 never steered the car you did. hehehe May be this build, tyres, grip, etc. F3 Eve early builds I could do 4:14 - 4:15 , then for a fair while it was hard to do 4:16 even 4:17 sometimes. Last 2 builds F3 Eve is a little faster again back to low 16s no tow and still not as grippy as old days. ....and I use baseline setups, fuel and rubber. I would say though if you did any Fresh OS with updated build and all drivers it should be as good as W10. Could be your OS was getting clunky.
Thats what im thinking, there are only few "scientific" explanations i can think off. Maybe WIn 10 achieves lower controller latency or inpug lag, but that shouldnt make up 2 sec. Maybe he had more rubber on track? It just doesnt make sence if its not better FPS
Yeah, I really have no idea what the change was, but it's definitely there. I've been consistently faster since the update. Better able to control slip and everything. To those wondering about the Fanatec drivers. The Blog will post the beta drivers before they go official on the site. Here's the blog. https://www.fanatec.com/forum/categories/blog
I experienced a lot better fluid graphics when I moved from i3 to i5, with better laptimes because I have more info to work with, Win10 could do something similar. In resume, Win 10 is not faster, you are faster.
Sometimes just having a short break from doing something and then getting back at it makes you better. That's just the way we are. If we keep doing something we will be so focused on the routine that we will not even see there's a better way. Getting some distance to it helps to clear your head and make room for improvements It's just like seeing an F1 driver taking a holiday in most unexpected moment of the season only to return stronger.
