Hi everyone! I hope this thread is posted in the right place. If not please correct me! I'm new to the forum and about to head into the wonderful world that is REAL sim racing. I'm saving up to buy a PC, but really need some advice on specs (as I'm also new to PC gaming!) I've got my mind set on something like this: - INTEL i5 3570K, 3.4GHZ (3.8GHZ TURBO) UNLOCKED - COOLERMASTER HYPER-TX3 - ASUS P8Z77-V LX2 - 2GB DDR5 EVGA SIG2 GTX680OC GPU - 250GB SSD, SOLID STATE DISK (SAMSUNG 840) - 8GB DDR3 1600MHZ KINGSTON "DUALCHANNEL" HYPER-X - 650W XFX PRO SERIES 80+ OG SLI CERTIFIED It's about 1000 £ and I have no clue as to whether it's complete overkill, or the opposite? I need a PC that's able to fluently run rFactor2 at absolute max settings. Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated. Cheers
I have nearly the same setup but only a 660ti, 1866MHz RAM, and can run on max everything except for antialiasing at level 1-3.
should run everything on (high ) maybe not shadows yet rf2 still needs more optimization. 3 screens needs more memory buffer 4gig or 6gig card. i use gtx 680 4 gig
Interesting, thank you for your answers. I put a lot of focus on finding a setup with nice CPU, RAM and GPU. I'm curious: What about running 2 x (SLI) MSI GTX 660 TWINFROZR III OC? Does anybody have experience with rF2 and that kind of GPU setup?
I believe 3GB of VRAM is the new 2 lol. 3333333333333333333 lol, or 4 or more, but then you are at the useless, no benefits yet point (Just like 3 used to be). So ya like coops said, get the 4GB card (or 3GB if they had a gtx 670/680 in that version).
So far there have been issues with multi-card setups showing little to no improvement in fps. Your best bet right now would be to stay with the best single card you can afford just to be on the safe side. EDIT: btw, there is a hardware section of the forums before you enter the rF2 section on the board.
You're going for a pretty high end system and in early june the new intel cpu haswell will be available. It uses a different socket. I would wait a few days...
Also new nVIDIAs are on their way, altho they arent really new, only pretty much renamed 6 series... But with system you specified i believe you will have absolutelly no problems with rFactor2
Thank you all very much for the useful insight! Greatly appreciated. It's like venturing into a dense jungle, having to fingure out what to focus on when shopping for a gaming rig. But is there much performance to be gained if I buy a rig fitted with a 3 GB GPU instead of a 2 GB? I mean in a game like rF2 for instance? From what I have gathered, the GPU is the most determining factor in gaming, as long as it's fitted together with a great CPU and plenty of RAM? Is that CPU worth waiting around for?
Oh thanks, I guess I missed that. Can I move this thread over there instead? Don't want to clutter up the forum with misplaced threads.
You should be fine with this rig. You can always disable road- and environment reflections under graphics since racing in the rain is a pain to look at in the first place. These two settings kill fps even in dry conditions. My take is that killer rigs aren't really necessary for playing RF2, giving the current state of visuals. You play for the feel, not for great looks, cause you won't find them even on max settings.
hexagramme, the only time you will need large amounts of graphics ram at the present is if you use triple screen setups or more. 2Gb is more than enough to handle even the 2550 X 1440 resolution of some monitors.
Can you post where you are buying from? As I looking through my buying options for a new rig. Maybe waiting for a price drop next month.
I play with a GTX 660 and it does rather well on one screen with 1920x1080. I think I have road reflections off (since it seems to do nothing) and everything else on full. AA on moderate level and FXAA off since it seems to worsen performance. Should run fine on your rig.
hexagramme that is almost my system except that i run a 660ti and my Asus is the lx not lx2, and i can run all settings maxed out without the crowd thingie
http://topdata.dk/product.asp?product=8918 Just what I wanted to hear! I think I'm going with the GTX680 then. Seems like that's the graphics card to go with, if one were to chose single GPU instead of SLI.
