Why is AC more popular than rF2 in terms of modding?

That's hilarious given that the AC community motto is basically "everything from every other game for me, for free".

ACC is an evolution of AC physics, it is obvious that ACEVO is going to try to replicate what was done in ACC. The vast majority of simracers already love these simulators, which is why they do not need a revolution but simple improvements.

Regarding mods, it is obvious that most of them will want to have their mod in a new game, with improvements in all areas. Kunos has it very easy this time. I just hope that, like with ACC, they release a practically finished simulator, not early access.

    For me
Yeah improvements like braking with ABS in ACC. Unfortunately neither Stefano nor Aris will be part AC Evo . I don’t know whether there will be physics guy in Kunos Sim. that will be able to replace them.

You are right in this, ACEVO could lose its entire identity by not having its best men.

ACC in early access at first weeks after first hotfix had brilliant physics, maybe just a touch on too difficult side. But they smelled different than usual AC stuff. They were rejected. AC Kunos metaverse will always be stuck with that paradigm. It is alright, but not the best. It is good enough for tons of simracers, but principally it is at community forced stagnation for level of realism. Fortunately there are still some who wants more, even if that is less than 10% of total simracers.

I am extremely curious to see what will be decision about modding. I think it is either going to be a lot more strict, to gatekeep a lot of wrong stuff. Or it will just not be in there. Perhaps the only reason why it might be there, so they could easily lure in as much AC1 people as they can. But modding might as well hurt their sales through DLC, as people will be like "why should I buy it, there is already good mod for that". And if they would actually try to pull a step forward in terms of physics realism, modders might be "fixing" it to make more like it was in AC, although Kunos totally buckled over ACC in first month, so thats almost certain that they won't have ambitions for more realism than it is there, as it is obviously enough and even required by community not to go more complex... It will be interesting to see.

What you call realism is very ambiguous, Kunos has always been open to the community, you have a specific forum where you can talk about your problems in physics. They try to be as close as possible to what we call REAL.

In AC the users were very critical and provided real information, visual evidence and Kunos was forced to make changes.

ACC was recently criticized for the poor work of the suspension on the pianos, Aris in his transmissions recommended not going through them so as not to waste time, while in real life everyone uses them. They have focused on improving it.

Before stepping on the curbs towards the very unstable car, more difficult but not more real.
The same thing happened with the tire model, one point of contact made the car more unstable and the five now more stable, supposedly this makes it more realistic, although obviously I am not able to judge it in this case.

It's those people that don't make the quality content I am talking about though ;)

Other authors want to keep their content in the AC eco system, because rF2 hate or something I don't know. I only use AC to do a couple of laps to test historic content, but never race it. My T818 just feels awful on it and I can't be bothered to spend hours tweaking CM parameters when I can just load up rF2 and it all works.

I would love to see Stereo's
Formula Ford - Russell Alexis Mk.14
properly ported over to rFactor 2. With permission of course.

    ACC is more developed-advanced
but AC doesnt have the weird slides that ACC has
more direct handling in AC but i still find myself say sometimes that "AC shows its Age"

Early access physics until 0.5.2 version were shockingly good
0.6 patch were a dissaster and if i remember well they implement Dynamic Damping at 0.6 patch

How hard is it to goggle it by yourself? Also is the Unreal engine really determining cars’ handling? I thought it was used mostly for graphics, but not sure.

RF2 fanboys will tell you stuff along the lines of "oHmAgEd, rF2 so complex, they can't understand it. They can't get close to it. The physics calculations blow our minds, it's the String theory, noone can approach this magic, they can't get their minds over it." Bla bla, that's typical. That stuff been cycling in this forum for a decade now.

Short and correct answer is: Modding in AC is more popular, simply because AC is much more popular. Not because "Modders can't handle the String theory ultra mega complex physics of Realismfactor2 bro". There's nothing modders can't do, mostly it's a work of passion.

RF2 fanboys (who have been waiting for the magic moment of RF2 for a decade now) won't tell you that RF2 was born dead, kept a very ugly and user unfriendly UI for a decade, looked bad and also ran bad (You typically pick either), even official content was very inconsistent, and then came along AC feeling amazing, looking amazing, running amazing. Base content being quite satisfying, consistent and high quality, all tracks being laser scanned, intuitive UI and people moved over, and so did the modders. They won't tell you that these were the actual reasons. They'll cope with "cUz mOrE cOmPlEx BrEh!" cuz it makes them feel better.

BTW at that time RF2 fanboys were claiming that RF2 tracks (none were laser scanned) were more realistic than AC's laser scanned tracks :)

Now, debunking the "mOrE cOmplex theReFore mOrE reAlisTic bRo" myth. More "complexity" or more "calculations" doesn't necessarily result in a more realistic sim. This is evident from the fact that cars in AC drive and handle much more realistically than RF2, also than ACC. ACC is supposedly more complex on paper, but when it comes to practice, it isn't more realistic. In fact it is less realistic than AC.

You can go ahead and dive into AC physics values yourself. It's not necessarily any easier, it's a different approach that is more efficient and gets you results.

Most people with irl experience will tell you that AC handles much more closer to reality. This is also confirmed by the long time simracer and F1 driver. His english malfunctions here, but what he means to say is "One of the best if not the best".

Here is yung Max from a decade ago using commercial sims with a G27 no less, to reiterate the fact that he doesn't just repeat what he heard elsewhere, the guy is actually experienced simracer and is able to form his own opinions by testing and feeling, using the best equipment available, also having used the older equipment.

And mind you, this guy has access to the F1 team sim, and still says that AC is one of the best if not the best to practice F1 or GT mods.

So to repeat the short answer, modding is more popular in AC, because AC is much more popular. You have 2% of the amount of the player base of AC, you get 2% of modders.

Your short answer is alright. I just don't get why did you need to vent all that nonsense, I regret wasting my time reading it. Even bigger mistake would be trying to discuss it.

rF2 is pretty good sim, it has always been. I think it is monumentally better than it was years ago, I don't see the reason why not to start spending more time in it right now and why not to direct some more quality mods here. AC is quite a limited experience if we would isolate it from content amount and various systems around it that are not to be found in rF2 - very good example excellent rsr fastest laptimes app.

AC deserves to be where it is. rF2 deserves to be higher than it is.

It must be recognized that ISI was very ambitious, it was the pioneer in many of the characteristics that we now know. All current simulators have used it as a reference, Kunos simply made a good base very poor in features that would never have succeeded if the game was not moddable.

But who is this dude to say AC is one of the best? Does he even drive IRL? /s

But seriously , there’s some truth you said , but I don’t agree with everything. For instance how do you qualify the above?
I think it’s unlikely that e.g. AC GT3 cars are more realistic than in ACC. Also realism should be considered per car/mod basis not “game A handles more realistically than game B”. Realistic in what way? aero simulation? braking?, at and over the limit tire simulation? tire thermal modeling? suspension ? drivetrain?

Also consensus is that rf2 car modding is in deed much harder than in AC if you want to do it right.

Yes, there are experienced simracers saying that AC is the best, and for every sim and racing game.

Unless a better engine emerges, in 20 years time I can see people still working on rF2.
Just as some are with all old gmotor, always improving it.

When Evo is released how many first chance will jump ship.

Same as all these dye in wool fans of pCars formula is best.
    Where are they now ?
