Have you tried just waiting, and seeing if it syncs? Only time I've had that problem is when I was in offline mode on steam.

Have you tried verifying you game files? Right click the game on steam>properties>local files>verify integrity of game files.
Another thing you can try, but I don't think it's recommended, is deleting auto-subscribe.txt from rFactor 2\UserData. That will force everything to download again.

Maybe a firewall is blocking it or something? I have no idea what would cause this.

Try disabling antivirus completely, even uninstalling, to rule that out (had more than one antivirus somehow get corrupted and do weird things in the past, each time a complete reinstall ended up fixing it but I'd try without it first).

Silly question, but is it any different if you don't launch through steam?

Also, can you post your system specs, including display type and drivers version?

Have you tried other steam applications to make sure it's not a steam issue?

Just as a test, do the following.
Remove the folder 'UserData' from your rfactor 2 installation, the folder can be found here:
    ..\Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\UserData
Move it to the desktop or somewhere else or you can also delete it, but if you only remove it, you have it as a backup with your user related settings.
    Then start the game.
A new UserData folder with all user files will be created then.
    Sometimes that solves strange problems.

@xAnti It's a bit tough as the hang/pause is happening so early, so it's different to the 'usual' faults.

Have you installed these runtimes: https://forum.studio-397.com/index....0-removes-runtimes-after-major-updates.58239/ ? (all of them, not just the 32 or 64 bit ones)

Also, sorry to be a pain, can you describe what you see before the white rectangle? When I click Play from steam:
    1. I first get a "Preparing to launch rFactor 2" message,
    2. then the rF2 auto-subscribing message,
    3. then the launcher flashes into the background and it says it's synchronizing with the workshop,
    4. then it finishes loading.
It sounds like perhaps yours is hanging on the second part?

Jeez, well done @Bernd  I didn't even think Userdata got involved that early. Learn something new every day... no, wait... occasionally...

@xAnti I would suppose that this time the problem is caused by something different as it was the first time.
If it would be the same reason, you could again solve it in the same way.
And nothing happens without a reason.
So there must have been happened something.
Maybe a windows update, an update of the graphics driver, of any other software ( especially anti-virus software) or have you downloaded a new mod or vmod or new other software.
Or it also could be corrupted hardware.
    Or, or, or.
It's almost impossible to find it out what causes the problem, without to have access to the computer where it happens.
If you can not solve it this time, i would suggest to directly contact the s397 support.
