I had this kind of thread in AC forums, and it used to be mildly popular, so I think it would also be interesting to have such space in here. We can discuss everything what is associated with water on the racing track, share onboards and external view videos. Discuss how rF2 works with wet tracks, also discuss how other titles cope with wet track features. Share knowledge and interesting material, and seek for knowledge. To begin with some interesting videos from wet nordschleife. Look how controllable slides appears to be, however we don't know how difficult it actually is for the driver, but no doubt it is drivable like that. Thats awesome video. I'd like to add my comment about "rubber on rubber is good on the dry, and bad on the wet" it is not entirely correct statement, because thats not so much related to rubber itself but to surface texture. Smoother surface means less mechanical keying to the surface, in the dry it is not that much an issue as it is compensated by better adhesion, but in the wet mechanical keying is a lot more important as wet surface can't provide as much adhesion. Very smooth surface can cause viscous hydroplaning as supper thin layer of water film makes adhesion almost inactive, and there are not enough of texture for tire to grab to, in that case it is theoretically same as ice. Also rubber reduces water drainage through tarmac, however as much as I have observed smoother surfaces evaporate water faster. Also interesting thing speaking of liquids, I have read that very high temps at contact patch can create instant melting of tarmac at contact patch, so not only tire rubber looses strength as it overheats, but also the tarmac at the contact too. You might wonder why I put an onboard which perhaps couldn't be more dry. Well first of all it is crazy onboard, and I can't wait to try the rF2 mod of this car. Second and more on tthe topic - check out his racing lines. Usually we think about alternative racing lines in the wet. But what about very hot tarmac, like if it was so hot that it was nearly melting ? Check out this onboard and notice how often the driver is offset from what seem to be faster line, and what most other drivers use. My guess is that on the racing line, especially very rubbered places tarmac/rubber is near the melting point and does not provide good grip. So this driver apparently being better than everyone else, most likely also with better setup, better car and better knowledge just totally owns almost whole grid after emergency pitstop in the first lap. It is amazing.
Anything handling like that can be expected with upcoming update (someday) of Woochoos 1954 Endurance mod.
Japan's Fuji Speedway often suffers from severe heavy rain conditions. (The well-known is the 1976 Japanese Grand Prix ...) Among them, Yuhi Sekiguchi makes interesting driving.
