That's kind of the point though. How many hundreds/thousands of hours to integrate any subsequent improvements (LMU, anything else that may be done, minus some series specific features so rF2 doesn't make LMU redundant) and update all existing S397 content to not only work correctly but actually be at current tech level (which I believe wouldn't be possible due to licensing in some cases, could be wrong), while still having new users exposed to old ISI content and a plethora of third party mods covering the range of quality and tech from 2016 to 2026/7/? for zero income?

Versus fresh title, no existing broken content, new cars and licenses, all paid for, and the "only" work required is to remove the series specific stuff so it remains a sandbox that does lots of things fairly well while leaving room for individual titles to cater to fans of particular series - for more income.

Well, I don't even like discussing this, I'm just very sad and discouraged with what is being done with RF2, at least they updated some of the cars they sell that aren't even updated, and I think the biggest mistake was never launching a modern F1. or an lmp1-h, I hope they still release it.....

I do understand, I was here in 2012 waiting for KERS, then waiting for hybrid after 2013

But I've always thought it didn't make sense financially to actually have a single sandbox game that can do everything properly (car systems, rulesets for series) because you're relying on DLC income only and it's probably quite difficult to make allowances for all possibilities. So I would think even a future rF3 will have limitations by its nature. You'd probably need a subscription access model to make a "one stop shop" actually work, and I think we know how that would go down...

I see the licensing being a Issue In some games as of late, that might be something to reconsider (or not) for future sales model.

Due to licensing and agreements with our partners, Forza Horizon 4 will be delisted from digital platforms (Microsoft Store and Steam) on December 15, 2024. This means the game and its additional content will no longer be available for purchase through online stores.

AC has become the go-to sim for cheap racing. Buy the complete package for 5€ or less and race anything under the sun. That's probably the reason its popularity has grown so much in the later years. Its price has gone down while its content has increased, even though not all content is good, that's less important than the price.

You could distribute RF2 and all its content for free, and it still wouldn't even have 20% of the players of AC. Initially it would have some traction since people would give it a go, then it would quickly subside to roughly whatever levels it is currently at. So no, you're not "elite expensive exclusive simracing group" compared to the "cHeAp rAcInG gRoUp" because RF2 is more expensive when you pay €10 or something for single track or car packs.

Besides, AC ultimate version currently on Steam is more expensive than RF2. (Now he is gonna say "Akchually no you can buy individual tracks and cars that cost like €10 each so RF2 is more expensive")

By end of first year sales I doubt ISI where thinking about adding any time sapping features which would do what exactly ? Start a flood of sales ?
People were calling it a cartoon with no content and full of bugs.

I do understand one thing, if people had supported ISI and S397 like other sims you would mostly have your wishlist.

Strange, and now rF2 has KERS anyway, I don't see why doing it then would have been a mistake. We already had a third party solution for rF1 as I'm sure you're aware.

They did the Marussia too don't forget. Unfortunately it didn't have KERS so they had no need to implement it.

Some car system additions wouldn't have hurt the whole scene.

My opinion is RF2 is the best racing sim overall considering content, physics, graphics and overall racing feel of the good cars and tracks. I can understand why some people are a bit sad about development stopping.

My biggest disappointment is the lack of multiplayer and overall exposure of the game. I'm not blaming the devs, they did their best and made a great effort with the race control although I think it was sadly a bit late.

If studio397 did some graphical updates and really focused on a deep multiplayer interface and called it RF3, I would be fine with that and certainly buy it.

Alongside of extremely overpriced iRacing rFactor 2 could deliver you an amazing oval racing experience, touring racing, even dirt racing, we have a lot of free mods and amazing modded tracks we can use for our own championships.

You can do whatever car or track you want in rF2 and put IndyCar, Kart, Renault Clio and F1 to the same track with oval rules for a multiclass race.

Stop being so concentrated on features that doesn’t make real racing more entertaining.

I think he meant behaviour and visuals which I agree, iRacing rain looks better in some respects for certain.
However this is where I part with the majority.

That people still think S397 can just pull a ISIMotor3.0 equivalent from their butts are fantasizing.
Even if they could, adding all this stuff will do nothing for rF2 future now, die was cast long ago. ( shrugs)

What average racer needs to do is forget all this and just extract the best from ISIMotort2.5 for themselves, warts and all.

If you can't by now you never will.

It's not pure marketing by a big company, but rather the development of new technologies, and just look at what the LMP1-H were, much better cars than these new ones that do have a hybrid just to save fuel and not to have extra power as in the old regulations. However, can we have these cars in RF2??? No.

I race with several different cars with my friends, but I can't drive what for me was the pinnacle in terms of technologies that weren't just for fuel economy, so much so that the cars were much faster because of this hybrid technology that was the case of the LMP1-H, we have as an average their own LMP1 (in the case of Bykolles and now the Peugeot 908) which are wonderful and that we wouldn't even need the studio for them to be made, the modders could do it, the fact that they left the RF2 in favor of the LMU is practically a shame.

They are companies and they need to make money to be able to exist.

It's not me and 10 other friends, I've heard from a lot of people that they don't play because it doesn't even simulate a modern F1 in a decent way, but a company that fell behind because the content doesn't meet the current races, didn't update its own content and that's certainly why it didn't have more sales. Here comes the logical end of the unfinished game, I already said all this at the very beginning of development. ISI is a bunch of people who wanted to make money on the old name of their simulator, they were surprised by the hyper-popularity of their first series, but did not take into account the main feature, in the first part modding was more flexible and friendly. In the second part they set a high bar, not jumping to it even halfway. Reconstruction of the old engine and complication of mod packaging pushed away most users, the graphics, which they could not make, simply tore apart the whole idea of the future simulator, which will unite everyone. From my memories, I can say that I was shocked by the first frames and videos of the development of the simulator, and was very disappointed with the first releases. Now only official add-ons can be called high-quality content, that's it, there are no more of them. There is simply no desire to do something for the game. They sold it because they couldn't do anything because of their plans, and the new studio, I already said, they won't dig into the mistakes that ISI made with their engine. Now this simulator is a living mummy of the first part.
