according to the interview with the MSG president, there are still plans for rF2. HOWEVER....those plans are definitely on HOLD until LMU becomes fully functional. Best guess (as noted by Marcel in an older thread) will be next year (2025) before any real investment occurs again for rF2. @Bernat I assume he is feeling ignored by S397 as they focus completely on LMU.
What has our support got to do with it? They are an extremely cash strapped company whose very existence depends upon LMU being a success. If you can some how find a way to generate the same amount of cashflow from 10year old rF2, then send them your plan. The amount of income derived from rF2 has been maxed out for a long long time. If you like, they can pull the team back from LMU to fix something that has been sitting on the 'to-do' list for 6 years, and we can watch LMU also sink into oblivion. A company has to do what it has to do to remain fiscally viable. They could just as easily end rF2 and remove it from Steam and cease providing servers which have been available at no cost to you or I. IF rF2 continues...wonderful...but I'm not at all bothered by the fact they have, at least temporarily, shoved rF2 aside to continue adding to LMU. What happens if they decide to take the progress from LMU and use that to create rF3? That would again totally cut off rF2 and we would most likely be looking at 4 or 5 years of re-purchasing the same DLC(only with a new bell or whistle) for rF3.
rF3 sounds likely. I don't think that's what Ayrton meant by the way. He got some good fishing in though.
Don't hold your breath. There were all sorts of talk about this about a decade ago. Nothing seemed to come of it.
An rF3 could be a great success, rF2 is a great sim thanks to its physics, but everything else feels outdated and updating it could be more difficult than starting a new project. I know that creating a project requires a lot of funding and S397 may not be able to afford it financially, but a kickstarter? We players even pay for poor quality mods, I wouldn't mind paying €10-20 to finance a project with a clear roadmap. Although today it seems very difficult to make a successful simulator, there is a lot of competition, there are a large number of simulators and several are yet to come, but without a doubt rFactor already has a name made and this makes things less difficult.
Too soon to give that award. There's plenty of competition. Actually, I think we could make something funny out of all the drama by establishing annual Best Drama Post, Best Drama character, Best Drama Plot,... awards.
rFactor 2 is like classical music. Even if it's 200 years old people who appreciate real music will keep listening to, in our case we appreciate the art of rF2 and will continue playing even if it's old and outdated. In conclusion good art last forever, garbage last until it's replaced by a newer one. Take for example Taylor swift, in 50 years nobody will remember her "music".
We are not orphans, we are adults and can play RF2 even without supervision of a developer. Damn there are people still playing GPL probably and someone here can't play without a flow of new content or features?
rFactor 2 is great. rFactor 1 is great. Automobilista 1 is great. Assetto Corsa is great. The best thing about all of these games? If you want new content there is probably a mod for it, and if not you can make it yourself.
If at least rF2 had support for a decent hybrid system, it would be great, as I never minded using mods, as long as they were of decent quality like those from ASMG, the problem is not being able to simulate a modern F1 or a modern prototype with all the features. their functional systems.
