    Hi,
I was recently asked to help someone with vertex painting for rF2. I decided I might as well make a mini-tutorial on the subject.

It's not the final word in vertex painting or anything like it, but it might be useful to someone who hasn't started with vertex painting yet. As far as I know you can use it on ANYTHING in rF2 except the road surface (Realroad/RaceSurface meshes). Some popular uses are dirt/muddy patches in grass textures, fake shadows, and re-colouring an existing base texture on different objects.

    It's easy. Go nuts!

    vertex_colour_minitute_3dsmax2011_rF2_(woochoo_2013-08-23) (9.9 MB)
    edit3: added dropbox link: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/21748521/vertex_colour_minitute_3dsmax2011_rF2_(woochoo_2013-08-23).pdf

also, happy to take corrections etc :)
edit1: should be ok for other versions of 3dsmax if the vertex paint modifier still works the same (it probably does) (but the max version still needs to be able to export to rF2).
edit2: will work for rF1 also (but then you need the rF1 plugs).
    Cheers,
    woochoo

It should be ok, as long as the vertex paint modifier is more or less the same (which I'll assume is the case).

    Nice Tutorial.

Before we can't use VertexPainter (rFactor1 can't use).

I use my script "Random Vertex Painter".
My script creates random values within a range color range. Can use in grass, trees, walls..

    Last version v1.1

Im testing vertex paint on cars and it looks great sofar, might help us to get better textures so we dont have to use AO maps anymore.

    Thanks Mario,
I'm not sure exactly what you're saying, but I did use 3dsMax 2011 Vertex Paint in rF1. Am I misunderstanding you?

    Nice little tutorial, woochoo.

Yeah, I used it for rF1 in exactly the same way as in the tutorial, using the rF1 mat/exporter plugins of course :)

I use my script but the information i have is the modifier don't work.
In rf2 plugins only in the newer versions is that allowing export.

Yep. That has been possible since day one. I'm not sure if here is confusion between rF2 Terrain Blending and Vertex Paint - modifier. Vertex Paint works just fine in rF1, but rF2 - style Terrain Blending is not possible in rF1.

    Cheers!

Haven't been using vertex paint for long, what are benefits for using it on cars, how it can be better than good AO pass over textures, what i remember from school vertex based ao needs denser mesh to look decent
