in light of this announcement, is it safe to assume that textures & 3d models will move to this format also, thats how i'm reading it.
That would seem very unlikely. JSON is really an alternative to (or replacement for, in this case) .ini and similar file types with parameter=value type pairs (or groups). Textures are almost purely binary apart from a small amount of header info, while 3d model files (such as .gmts) are pretty heavily packed with binary data including bitfields. Converting those into text would greatly increase file size, increase processing time, and in the case of .gmts make reverse engineering a much easier process - something I doubt ISI is looking to do.
