DONT update, go for full install, your instalation looks like its messed up!

Updating works ok, if you already have a clean installation.

    S**t!!!
I really hope I didnt mess this guy's evening.
I was at work and hurried my post with some mistakes:

4)Place all ISI content in Packages folder and install (not activate).Reboot.Check everything is ok.

6)Place them into Packages folder (you can scip Brianza as you should have it at 4) and install (not activate) all .

If you dont succeed with this, either you havent installed (not activated) properly,(so you should ask how to) or, your pc has a problem.

I'm wanting to un-install and then re-install the game (XP) are there any licence files that need to be saved or copied.

Your license information should be stored with your account when you log into the game via the internet. I don't believe there is anything stored locally.

License is stored with your account but also stored locally. But if you only uninstall and re-install I think the license is preserved (unless you delete it manually). If you re-install your OS you will loose the license and you will have to reactivate.

License information is stored here (for Windows 7):
    C:\Users\<YOUR WINDOWS USER NAME>\AppData\Roaming\.rFactor

Thanks, in XP they must be different names as I find nothing.

My problem is that when the game first came out I tried it on several harddrives now I have bits of it everywhere so I really need to remove everything to be sure.

For Windows XP it should be this folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<YOUR WINDOWS USER NAME>\Application Data\.rFactor

PS: It may be that the folder is hidden, so check if you have enabled view hidden folders setting.

Doesn't help when your "access is denied"?

Two things needed in my opinion in mod manager.
    1) A reinstall mod or component option.
I had a corrupt file in a car causing a CTD. To reinstall was a pain due to mods. Ended up doing a complete reinstall of rF2 due to failure to install after uninstall. Files missing that were not actually missing.
    2) Sub-folders for tracks, cars , etc. as an option in the packages folder just to help keep things tidy and manageable. Might be possible as I have not tried it.

Love rF2. Potential best racing sim for a long time considering tire and track dynamics.

Feel free to flame if that makes your day.

    Come on lol :)

It was that easy I never read a thing, just let my mouse do the walking and learned every thing along the way.

I mean compared to any other sim ie: fiddling with winrar and test folders

Oh my rF2... it was a blessing, a fresh breeze.

    Then what happened ?

Very next week the rfmod hate threads and petitions started full of fanatical reactions and bs. lool

and they call me warped. !!!

    lol

Granted I've been out of it for awhile (since Version 90, go ahead have a laugh), but at the same time I did Rfactor as well, so Rfactor has been around for awhile. So in a sense I'm a newbie again, and I must admit trying to update from 90 would have been a mess. So I asked the best way and was told, all your stuff is wayy out of date, so uninstall and do a lite download and install that.
So I did, trouble is it still leaves all the old stuff in your Documents folder, which wasn't mentioned too much, not at all basically in Guod's guide which I read BTW.
What happened? Well I had my old files trying to compete with the new ones, and made a bit of a mess. So I uninstalled again, and basically cleaned out my packages folder in documents, and now reinstalled lite version, and now I can see my new downloads in Packages(when I place them in there of course) and not the old ones when I start Rfactor2.
So am I still doing it wrong, or maybe the instructions might want to mention that Rfactor folder in documents too ?

I think Bsmooth has a point.

I followed a guide that said save uninstall from control panel and delete the contents of rFactor2 if there is anything left.
I did that and followed the advice to put data in a Data director in my case of drive letter\rFactor2 so I have drive letter\rFactor2\Data
Low and behold I now have...
    drive letter\rFactor2\Core
    Data
    Installed
    Manifests
    Packages,
    Plugins
    Support
    Updates
    Userdata

    and under Data
    I again have.
    Installed
    Manifests
    Packages
    Support
    Updates
    UserData

    Very untidy!

It's been like this since B198, trick is to install to one folder then you don't get the dupes (well they're overwritten). Don't make that one folder in Program Files or Windows if you don't have admin rights though lol.

I'm talking about the info in your Docs folder, which is where you install the packages, and none of that gets touched at all during an uninstall. I guess its just carnal knowledge you have to clean it out ?
