    i have tried saving as..............

    24 bit tga..........didnt work
    32 bit tga..........didnt work
    dxt3 dds ...........didnt work
    8888ARGB dds.....didnt work
24bit tga renamed to dds..........didnt work
8888ARGB dds renamed to tga.........didnt work

why is there such a mystery about saving this ****, simple icons shouldnt take up all my time. my time should be taken up making the models for the game not this crap

is a testament to the complexity of RF2 when the forums are over 110 pages of threads

I've always saved them as DXT5 DDS and never had any problem.

By the way...what exactly is the problem, you only write "didn't work", but in which way?

I went through this on car thumbnails and if I remember correctly the trick was have an image that is 512x512 and when you save use 8.8.8.8 no mips.

I've always used "DXT1 RGB 4 bpp | no alpha" DDS,
makes for a super small file size.

    Files names :-
    FileNameicon for the 512x512
    FileNamesmicon for the 256x256

    DJC

And the naming of the files is correct?
    You need these 2 files:

    [rfm_filename]icon.dds (suggested size: 1024x1024)
    [rfm_filename]smicon.dds (suggested size: 512x512)

If yes, please upload the files that you use.

Then please upload your files that we can maybe figure out where the problem is or we have another quiz here and i'm out then :).

The rfm file and both icon files please.

Did you try 8.8.8.8 no mips? I know for a fact that works for the car thumbnails because I documented exactly what worked so I didn't forget the next time I needed to make icons.

yep tried that Noel, i even saved the little pic you posted of the settings so i could repeat them,

i had so many suggestions from different people now i have no idea what i'm supposed to do, by the way i'm in the ModDev section of the game if that makes any difference

So let me ask for a last time...... why don't you upload your three files (rfm and the 2 icon files)?

Without having the files we only can give guesses like in a quiz, at this point that in my eyes is senseless in your case.

Or are they "highest secrecy level" ? ;)

As already mentioned, the Icon.dds(1024x1024) and SMicon.dds(512x512) can be saved as DXT1, no need for alpha.

Provided both are prefixed with the rFm name and located in the moddev rFm folder along with the mod rFm file, they should work just fine.

I am hoping your putting them in the wrong location;-) which is why they are not working

OK, then here an example that works. Saved as DTX5 DDS (all other suggested texture-properties should work too).

Unzip the file into the rfm-folder of the DevMod-folder (backup your files!), the rfm is just a default one with only the name of your mod inside.
