This is a common problem for every detailed track currently being developed, and I feel your pain. One option right now is to break up the model. Road surface in one file, trees in another, etc... This should keep your max files under 32 bit limit.

Yes and containers also helps... ;)
 
Yes, I know using Max containers, not showing maps on viewports (Display - Shaded - object color) and other ways.... but I wish for a easier life and a more confortable workflow.

Why does not Studio397 offer better tools to modders from beginning? We, track modders, should require more strongly these plugins
 
I'm not sure if 64bit exporter is in S397 near future roadmap. If it is, great. If not, we still can live with current tools until better ones are out.

As a side note, developing exporter to any Autodesk product is very time-consuming and very expensive...

Conversion.....no, It isn't a conversion.
It's 100 remake.....almost full new project!!!
Glad to see you are still around...I was a big fan of your rF1 version, beautiful track to drive...really looking forward to the rF2 version...thank you very much for your dedicated work to this artful craft.
