Anybody knows a library where you can get free track side objects like trees, cars, crowd, etc.? wouldn't it be cool to have one, where members can upload their stuff?
http://www.turbosquid.com/ is the main one that comes to mind. There are others but this seems to be the biggest.
Yes,but every object has to be converted and remapped and retextured and polygon reduced and unit converted... so it can work with our track. My idea is of having these objects in the right format for track building. billboard trees, low poly cars for the distance, 2D crowd, 3D track workers, tirewalls, etc. I think Bob's Track builder has such a library, but it would be cool to have this for Max.
If you'd like to start building such a library I'd love to help support you in it. I posted pit perches a while ago but have no idea if anyone every actually used them: http://www.trackcreation.net/devdiary/?p=411
In my modest opinion this library would be phenomenal for modders. However I don't know if you have thought about the format to be used for it. I think that the most powerful format that we could use would be to have them in one or more scenarios to visualize everything. For 3dsimed users it would be great to copy and paste it. Having them in one unique library would allow as well to avoid duplicating material names which can be very pissing. It can save some headaches also for having uniform hdr settings. With multiple subscenes you could just load certain type of stuff to avoid loading a huge scene that collapses pc. enviado mediante tapatalk
There is a train simulator out there which has a modding community. Each modder when he registers to add stuff gets a unique ID. When he uploads stuff his unique ID is appended to the beginning of each material, object & texture. We really need to do something similar. If we are going to have a database, we also need to have modders with their ID's. We would then manually add our ID to all materials, objects & textures we make. Worth it in the long run if something like this is to work.
