I don't ascribe to the pessimistic money-grab theory at all. I think making VR work with DX9 titles, while proven possible, is not an easy task and Reiza simply didn't have the resources in-house to pull it off. It became clear to them over time, that it would be better to bring VR-support with the new title and you can probably guess what platform that involves. I think they were right to go that route as VR has not enjoyed the popularity (yet) that it was sold as becoming. I think it has a bright future but, it's going to take much longer than first suggested.
Still, I'm glad that Reiza chose to finish AMS in the way they are. It shows real character as a small but, passionate and dedicated Sim-studio. Besides, work on the new title may be farther along than we know.
