Been too long between drives in rfactor2. Been out of the sim racing loop for a couple years and to my surprise ISI no longer owns rfactor2! Very interesting for sure and really excited for the changes planned, but how do i download my copy of the game now? Im sure its obvious so flame away so long as i can find out how :D

the transfer time stopped at 31st of januari this year so i'm afraid you have to buy again.
You could try sending s397 a mail and tell them that you returned just now after a few years maybe just maybe they can help you

It's worth every penny even when buying the second time, but you could call me a fanboy so my opinion is colored.
    It's up to you tho......
Good luck with your decision and have fun

Yeah the games worth 29 its just in principal for me. Ive already bought it. Fingers crossed something an be resolved as its only 8 weeks or so behind the cutoff. Have been watching some mid 90's cart races on street circuits. Those cars would have to be the most visually spectacular open wheel racing to date, rivalled only by 80s turbo f1. Bumpy roads, cars going sideways, no paddles and 3 peddle downshifts, running nose to tail, bumping but can still continue, leaving huge black marks out of turns trying to pass people. Racing porn for me.

Its unfortunate, but there was a year to upgrade to steam. Worth it though the improvements have been excellent

Yeah like i said ive had a couple years away, and no chance of buying the same game again at full price just because it moved to steam. Not sure why there needed to be a time limit on the changeover either way its pretty disappointing to be honest.

Because otherwise they'd have to employ a guy doing the license transfer for late users forever into the future. Also you should have received an e-mail about the deadline approaching in January, it went to everyone who owns a license. If you want to minimize the money spent, wait for a Steam sale, which may reduce the price up to 50%. Then you'd only have to pay $15-20 for a product that used to cost $80.

I never received one, but then again I went over to steam very early on, so maybe it only went to licence holders who hadn't migrated?

Dont recall receiving any emails actually, but if its a case of "if you dont transfer to steam you no longer can play the game" then they should automatically send a steam key to every person who owns the game. I cant think of any game that offered a limited time to transfer to steam (which you had to ask to do) then zippo you cant play it anymore, literally the same game just on steam... even if it is a year the offer was up.

EDIT - just searched my emails. Nothing about you must migrate to steam or you can no longer play the game, or even a email to say its migrating to steam

You can still play the game, and in a much better state than it was when you 'left'. You just can't get new builds, because they're on steam.

I'm going to make an uneducated guess ( one of many, a day  ) and link the Steam transfer deadline to S397 taking over from ISI.
S397 probably wanted as clean a slate as possible as soon as possible.

Plus ISI was still handling the transfer, presumably because a valid ISI license for rF2 is still valid, so transferring means they invalidate the rF2 licence and set up a new one on Steam. Hence Tim was the last person to comment regarding steam transfers, extended it an extra week, then said no to the next request a week or more after that.

OP, I don't mean any offense, but if you paid $80 for a game you played for maybe 2 years, then went away for over 2 years, then after some time back left it again for a couple of years... if rF2 had died at that point, which as a game lifetime isn't unusual, your $80 didn't get you much anyway.

If you try the rF2 demo builds and are impressed, spending that same amount again for something you like isn't really all that much. I understand the principle, but the amounts really don't add up to much.

Yeah all good, didnt think anyone was meaning offence, appreciate the help and feedback in this post. This forum would have to be one of the last toxic sim racing forums around, have been involved in sims since rec.autos.simulaters, indy500/nascar1/gp1 days and most communities these days take half a dozen codeine to get rid of the headache.

I get that i got some enjoyment and use from my original purchase, and if it was an expansion pack or a new game its a different story. Just a little irritated and disappointed a said earlier that its just buying the same game, except on steam, so i think i'll leave it for now as all the new mods are on the steam workshop as well as current builds which everyones enjoying with the obvious improvements. Maybe that'll change for me in a year or so, maybe not.

EDIT - LEAST toxic not last lol

No it went to everyone who ever bought a non-Steam license. My guess is that you're no longer using the same email address as the one you registered with originally years ago. This is why Steam regularly pops up the notification "Is this still your current e-mail address?", because apparently people change e-mail addresses and forget about it all the time.

Not in my case, same email for non and steam version, have used the same hotmail address for years (at least 15 years) for game purchases to avoid the different email addy when changing ISP's problem. No biggy for me, I'm on here often enough to be pretty much up to date with what's going on....

    Cheers
