Hello, I play Rfactor 2 in VR since some month now and I am switching to a Pimax 5k+. Rfactor 2 work well thank to smart smoothing (equivalent to oculus ASW) but as the game is not compatible with non parallel projection (for headset with angled screens) we need to make it compatible through Pitool configuration and it cost some FPSs. So would it be possible to make the game natively compatible with non parallel screens headset?

I don't know how much work it could require. Others simulations like AC, R3E or Prepar3d are compatible.

    Hi,
I've created a new post about reprojection, after that @Manfredk2 point me here :) I report it so an admin can delete the other one:
I'm one of the Pimax 5K+ backers too, I received my HMD a month ago.
With the new piTool (v. 111) rf2 works pretty well now, but can be better ;)
Unfortunately for the moment rf2 requires reprojection option flagged (an option in pitool setting that is needed to avoid a problem of "double image", unfortunately that option costs very much on gpu so it's very hard to keep FPS up).
So I searched what is needed to avoid that and I found this:
    https://github.com/ValveSoftware/openvr/wiki/IVRSystem::GetEyeToHeadTransform
    https://forum.pimaxvr.com/t/what-do...e-to-not-require-parallel-projection/13497/24
Anybody can eventually tag some devs to check this?
    Thanks a lot.

What are your impressions of Smart Smoothing and headset refresh rate/hz?

I am running with Smart Smoothing off currently, because it produces way more artifacts compared to ASW, for example. I wonder if changing headset refresh rate makes difference for Smart Smoothing quality?

I am still running .109, will wait till 111 comes out of beta.

I'm currently @ 72 Hz Smart Smoothing on.
With 111 everything is smoother now.
AA 5x and the other graphics at medium quality.
pitool settings 1.0 / steamvr 80% 36 fps ever (so my eyes sees 72 fps thanks to ss)

What rF2 needs is SPS, because on my system it seems like game is still CPU bound in VR (and that is with 8700k@5.0Ghz), my GPU is only 60% utilized. Friends who play iRacing report good results with SPS implemented.

What is SPS? To avoid the need of the projection flag seems devs need to change the rendering method in openVR with the suggested one(https://github.com/ValveSoftware/openvr/wiki/IVRSystem::GetEyeToHeadTransform

Doc, you might have better luck on Discord. @Marcels Offerman and @Christopher Elliot do keep tabs here, but Discord seems to be thier more immeadiate choice. I'm not up to speed with Discord so hopefully somebody else can chime in.

    I know about Parallel Projection.

However, this will benefit all VR users running 10 and 20 series of nVidia GPU https://developer.nvidia.com/vrworks/graphics/singlepassstereo not just Pimax users.

I was surprised to notice with my Pimax 5k+ that on starting grid I still get low GPU utilization, I would've expected GPU to hold performance back, but it seems like CPU rendering still is important factor, and probably even more important with Pimax due to high FOV.

Edit: it does sound like Parallel Projection is a small change, so even though it won't benefit all headsets, it would be nice if it is added as a Video setting option.
