    Smoothing groups.
It is a real problem re-editing anything with smoothing groups.
Because of the way you have to detach them in order for them to work in rFactor this means you have to re-attach them + weld if you need to re-edit any geometry and then detach them again before export. A proper nuisance.
Please could we have smoothing groups that work without having to detach them, this would save a great deal of time, if a re-edit is required.

When you work on your car, keep your smoothing groups but export GMT's with "Normals: Max" (you find this from exporter rollout). It is said that this is not good performance wise, so when your car is finished then detach smoothing groups and export with gMotor normals.

Im not sure about the performence. Im working on a car that has more polys than ISIs nissan gtr for example and even more parts for damage and ive got better fps whit 20 cars than whit nissan gtr actually. Maybe I did better lods but ive used all exported gmts whit max normalls setting.

+1. You don't get any smoothing group info with gMotor normals. Max normals also support Edit Normals modifier.

Performance exporting or performance in real-time rendering? It shouldn't make any difference in real-time rendering unless you're doing something with smoothing groups or Edit Normals that causes massive extra vertexes to be generated.
