I am sorry if this has been answered, either here or in the tutorial files... But does rF2 support multiple smoothing groups or just one like in rF1?

From what I've seen, just one. But I could be mistaken.

    it doesnt.

So basically add one smoothing group to the whole car and thats how it will look ingame. Get used to splitting edges\detaching polies.

Only one sm but modified normals did work with rF1 and they will work with rF2 also but thats too much work :D so its better do some splitting and detaching.

I think you could use modified normals in some parts but still :)

yes one smoothing group still... but you can set the detached polys smoothing groups as lower in the smoothing group.

    Update

    rF2 does support smoothing groups.

I found this out by accident when I forgot to detach groups to separate elements. rF2 does indeed support smoothing groups, but I am not sure if it is the GMT exporter that detach automatically. Anyway, it works, you don't need to detach anything.

That may happen if you accidentally left Max normals selected. It is desirable to detach to elements and use gMotor normals. they tend to be processed faster, and should result in better performance over using Max normals :) .

Oh thats what it is meant for! Guess I want to go with that route, even I hate detaching my groups :D
