I'm working on a Shelby Mod, thought I would invite anyone along who'd like to build some Shelby cars for rF2. Or even some GTs from the period.

The mod will be free to the community and will only use models and textures with the permission of respective owners.

Permission from Manufacturers? Meh... Not so much.

I'm starting on the Shelby Daytona Chassis, I'll be using the rF2 ISI AC 427SC 1967 (with permission) as the base of this mod and slipping the various Daytona bodies over that vehicle's configuration. Then modifying the suspension to try and match the Daytona as well as give it the changes for drag, engine and speed differences.

I also considered that any Shelby series would want to recreate great races that they took part in, then you would need a few more types of cars. Like a few Ferrari... Some races to recreate.

12 Hours of Sebring in March 1964
    1965 Nurburgring 1000 km race
    Le Mans in June 1964
    Reims 64/65
    Daytona
    Oulton Park TT
Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah, in November 1965,

Or it could just be Shelby cars... There are quite a few to choose from.

    for example.

    1962 Shelby Cobra 260 S/C CSX2000
    1964 Shelby Cobra 289 S/C
    1964 Shelby Daytona Coupe CSX2286
    1964 Shelby Cobra 289 S/C (Dragonsnake)
    1965 Shelby Cobra Daytona SuperCoupe
    1965 Shelby Mustang GT350R
    1966 Shelby Mustang GT350 H
    1967 Mustang GT500 Eleanor
1967 Shelby Cobra 427 Super Snake
    1967 Shelby Cobra 428 S/C
    1967 Shelby GT500 Supercharged
    1967 Shelby Mustang GT350
    1967 Shelby Mustang GT500
1967 Shelby Mustang GT500 Super Snake
    1968 Shelby Mustang GT350 Supercharged
    1968 Shelby Mustang GT500
    1968 Shelby Mustang GT500 427
    1968 Shelby Mustang GT500 K.R.
1968 Shelby Mustang GT500 KR Green Hornet
    1969 Shelby Mustang GT350
    1969 Shelby Mustang GT500 SCJ
    1970 Shelby Mustang GT500
    1987 Shelby Charger GLHS Special
    1998 Shelby Series 1
    2003 Shelby Series 1 S/C
    2004 Shelby Cobra Concept
    2006 Shelby Mustang GT500
2008 Shelby Mustang Cobra GT500 SuperSnake
    2008 Shelby Mustang Cobra GT500KR
2010 Shelby Mustang GT500 Super Snake
    2011 Shelby Mustang GT350
    2011 Shelby Mustang GT500 SVT
    2012 Shelby Mustang 1000
    2012 Shelby Mustang GT500 Cobra
2012 Shelby Mustang GT500 Super Snake
    2013 Shelby Mustang 1000 S/C
2013 Shelby Mustang GT500 Super Snake
    Can you name any missing?

figure people will bring whatever Shelby they love to the mix, there are many to choose from, I have access to quite a few models that I can use professionally, So I may have a model of the one you like and you can move faster into getting it in the sim.

I'm open to whatever... And I have servers, storage, models and bandwidth at my disposal.

    If interested, let me know.

    EDIT:

I was going to post this about a week ago and during my research I found a Mod of GT Legends called HistorX... Flabbergasted at the number of cars they had and how they covered this entire series, I thought it pointless to continue. After trying to contact them and getting no response, and reading that they are either working on an rF2 version an AC version or both, Who knows... I think I'll continue and at least the Daytona will make it into rF2 and we'll see where it goes.

Here's some shots of current progress.

We'll get you to do some testing... You can start by watching some videos of the Shelby Daytona on youtube and then driving the Cobra and thinking about how they should differ.

Everything seems to be falling into place... Literally. Sizes are matching up pretty close.

ISI Cobra is a little fat, but we can beef our girl up a bit.

Might as well play while I'm here...

The whole point of converting ISI's Cobra is that the physics and tires are done... But I couldn't resist some tire practice.

    Pretty close? Eh? Meh... Kinda...

Found some good plans, not sure I trust them though. My measurements of photos seem to indicate some discrepancies.

Got me started on the car.

From there it's just giving it a skin and playing with the skin until it looks right to your eye... Which is never... You can always go back a tweak a little more. Then you'll go back and look at other versions and realize it was better and hour or two ago. I probably have 20 versions of this car saved already.

She's coming along nicely though. I think I'll get her UV mapped and into the game rough just so people can start playing with it. Might draw more interest that way.

She fits right over the Cobra like a Sister wearing a hand-me-down dress.

In HistorX mod, these two cars are very very very different to drive. Just an observation.

Very nice car, I hope you the best.
This car had some aerodynamic down force, and has better cornering capabilities than the cobra 427.
    Thanks a lot.

From the history I've been reading the only thing that stayed the same was the frame and the engine size. The top speed increased substantially. and I'm sure new suspension helped the handling.

Well, there is the Superformance Shelby Daytona Coupe, Bob Bondurant's remake... But it's not original. I understand that the original 6 Coupes are 289's... The Type 65 was the 427 Variant and didn't make it to production, although, they did finally finish it.

We'll make them 289's. We could even revert a 289 back onto the Cobra. It need s a289 version too. Being 64 it was before a 427 ever graced a Cobra in the regular sense, I think Shelby used one once before 64 in a Cobra, but it was a Frankenstein and didn't work well. This is just the best base we have to start off of. We'll see about restraining her, will probably need a few track time trials to really close in on it though. I may make a 427 version because of my love of the motor and the make, we could call it the Superformance Coupe?

Just to be clear, I didn't model the car to match the ISI Cobra, I modeled the car after the plans and photos I found of the CSX2287, it just happens to fit well, probably because it's by the numbers.

Check out HistorX's version. Looks pretty good. Wish we could do a conversion.

Little perplexed at the tire size for the ISI Cobra. Maybe these are the racing tires?

On the right is standard tire size for Cobra, 295/60/R15

I'd only heard about that car in passing on one of these interviews. You seem to know your stuff on these cars, I hope you'll keep following along and helping out. I sent an email to the Superformance people asking if they want to advise on the mod. Maybe they have a sim?

Yeah? I didn't see the Daytona in their stable, didn't look too hard though...

That's too bad. Actually SimBin pulled their permission and went to "none of their content leaving their game". Last time I checked both SimBin websites were down. SimBin and Sector3 Studios.
But as of today Sector3 is back up. Can't hurt to ask...

Although, doesn't seem likely after the press release I read.

This was very enlightening. Look at all that extra power he's holding back.

Threw an email Peter Brock's way too... Can't hurt right? He's got a facbeook page and a website, though his website seems to be in disrepair. Shame too... Incredible man in automotive history. And he's got that 90 days story down pat.

Yeah, I saw that show. I've been watching youtube on autoplay with the search words Shelby Cobra Daytona. That guy loves the Daytona. he did a great job, love how the motor looks like a 289 but is a 347. That guy should have done some research beofre going to his house.
