well there are hidden settings that makes the game better-different-what was that ?????.....you know all these trick that racers suddenly discover after a lot of chat in different RF2 topics and stay with their mouth open...... lets start it guys.
I have optimized this file a lot in the past. My advice: do not change anything, especially on the graphics (Mirrors etc.). The results obtained are not necessarily the ones we are looking for. This is a thread that I could have launched a few months ago .... Do not touch anything.
I had several json tweaks in the past but can't remember which. Biggest impact recently for me was Lookahead Angle
player.JSON glance angle - I set it to 1.0 (radians) so I can see down the pits and see any cars coming. The usual look left/right isn't quite enough for lower FOV.
Here is a few. player.JSON: "Game Options" "Miscellaneous":1, When viewing a car in the Showroom this allows you to zoom right in and through the car to see the interior and what's under the body panels. Have a look at one of the ISI Eve or Spark Formula 68 then look at one of the S397 GT3/E "Pitstop Description":true, "Pitstop Description#":"Gives extra info about what's taking time in pitstop", Any info is good info. "Smart Pitcrew":false, "Smart Pitcrew#":"Pitcrew does things even if you mistakenly forgot to ask (one example is changing a damaged tire)", My pitcrew aren't paid to think, they're paid to do! Actually they're not even smart enough to do, sometimes. Multiplayer.JSON: "Auto Exit":false, "Auto Exit#":"whether to automatically exit after leaving auto-hosted\/auto-joined games", There are a few more player.JSON tweaks in my mirror guide, link in sig.
@ADSTA's rF2 Encyclopaedia should be a stickied thread of its own ! The texture one is a gooden as are the mirror tweaks .
Thanks to @ADSTA (how you dont mind me sharing and giving credit ! 1- While in the game, go to the Graphics tab. Set Opponent Detail and Player Detail to LOW. Exit the game. 2-Open the player.JSON file. Scroll down to [ Graphic Options ] and look for these lines. These lines should be like this from the changes in-game above. "Player Detail":0, "Player Detail#":"0=Low 1=Medium 2=High 3=Full", "Opponent Detail":0, Leave them at that. Now change these line to this "Opponent Texture Override":3, "Opponent Texture Override#":"For opponents' vehicle textures: -1=use Opponent Detail, 0-3=override value", "Player Texture Override":3, Normally the override lines are at -1, so they use the Player/Opponent settings from the in-game options You can change the number from 1-3 Low texture= 1 medium= 2 High= 3 Basically you get the lower detail model but with higher res skins.
One that I discovered recently: in "Game options" go to: "Texture Sharpening#":"Sharpen textures using MIP LOD bias - 0=Off, 1=+2.0(very blurry), 2=+1.0(blurry), 3=-1.0(sharp), 4=-2.0(very sharp), 5=0.0(auto)". It is basically a kind of smoothing or sharpening, depending on whether negative or positive values are applied. It can be used as a kind of anti aliasing, at no cost in fps. Unfortunately, it seems to have no effect on VR. I put a value of "2" and it looks very good.
This is not necessarily a tweak but it may good practise after a RF2 core update to erase you player.json and let RF2 regenerate a new one (probably even more important if you fiddle with it). After last update I had major stutters and the black loading VR content screen popping up. I deleted the json and all was great. I then re-applied my modifications to the json. One of my favourite tweaks is the reverb setting, I lowered he distance and increased the intensity...I find this better on ovals.
My favorite is "Self in Rearview Mirror":"*". That displays car and driver itself in mirrors. Works well with some open wheel series.
No because in most cases it causes a very bad effect cause of the fact mirrors are not positioned in the right...positions
However, I believe some mods have it done right. I think this really should be on by default and part of mod release process, should be made sure this feature works correctly.
In this case I'd have it on of course, but atm unfortunately it isnt. Atm mirrors are not part of an update process and in many cases are not even settable individually...very bad
