Agree with you for a race car, with a street (not a sport car either) car driven agressively on a track, you may end with bald tires in a few laps, but especially on outside of your thread (due to insufficient camber for hard cornering, too much roll, insufficient lateral stiffness of tire walls, and too low tire pressure).
