Server crashes when one specific driver enters the server with his assigned vehicle

Yes it looks really odd but that has happened tonight, while we were training for tomorrow's race.

6 people were in the server. Each of them with his personalized vehicle included in the dedicated component prepared for the champ.
Among those 6 drivers, there was also the person that later would not be able to join the server with the car he had been using so far.
The initial problem has occurred shortly after a 7th driver has entered the server. The server has crashed and the following message appeared in the server:
rF2 has stopped working. I guess this 7th driver has entered with his car but I cannot tell for sure.
This person was not in Teamspeak so we have not been able to communicate with him.

After this first crash to which I have not given much importance I have restarted the server.
Shortly after doing this, the server has crashed again while people were joining the server.
We have repeated this for two or three times with the same result, so we have started doing some test to try to find where the problem was.

Facts from testing:

1) We have killed the other two servers running without any result. Crash
2) If we all joined with my car, for example, it would not crash
3) We have finally concluded that crash happened when driver Jesus entered the server with his assigned car
4) If other driver entered the server with Jesus' car no crash
5) If Jesus entered the server with any other car different from his, no problem. No crash
6) I have prepared another install in a different port with the same result (crash o no crash depending on the vehicle Jesus selects)
7) We have stopped Realtime Weather. No effect (crash o no crash depending on the vehicle Jesus selects)

To me this problem des not make any sense... I have never faced such a situation with rF2 before.
What has possibly changed from the initial situation to the final one?
Is it possible that the 7th driver had an equivalent problem to the one Jesus had at the end, causing the first crash?
Is it possible that the first crash changed something on Jesus PC that makes the server crash with one car and when selecting another car it does not give problems or mismatch?

My bare suspicions point at the the following:

1) Get Mod and Components utility. I have not used it so far. Since it is new it could be the problem.
2) Jesus install got somehow corrupted
3) B660. This build is provoking some "Connection Lost" Issues straightly after joining the server
4) Realtime weather. It is one week now that we are using one executable for two servers. I turned it off but didn't help.

As you see the situation less than 24 hours prior to the race is quite dramatic. We have decided that this guy will not use his car.
However, as league admin I am very worried since the situation is far from ideal and tomorrow the same problem could occur with other drivers.
I literally have no clue where the problem resides. Any help will be very much apreciated.

I think I know what the problem is. Jesus' own car uses the number 666. ISI automatically crashes the server if a driver named Jesus joins with a car that has the number 666. If they allowed this to happen the world may come to an end. It's just a bad idea you know. Hahahaha.

Okay, joking aside... looks like you found an interesting bug. I think to fully debug this, ISI would need access to the mod.

Jesus tried again and made the server crash. He just sent me a msg about the error he got.
I translate what he just sent me....
Ordinal 573 cannot be found in the dynamic link library iertutil.dll.

In spanish
no se encuentra el ordinal 573 en la biblioteca de vinculos dinamicos iertutil, dll

And here I was restraining myself from making similar jokes :-)

What defines "his car", custom skin ? A seperate model ? Defined .VEH in TEAMS ? If .VEH, have you made sure it uses a unique #number ? Are Jesus using any upgrades ?

His car is a specific veh assosiactrd to his team and skin.

Anyway, we think that the problem is clear now.

After making a new install of rf2 and reinstalling all the required components and vmod we checked that he cpuld join the server without making it crash. I did that myself with Team viewer.

APPARENTLY, THE FIRST CRASH OF THE SERVER (WHICH WAS NOT CAUSED BY HIM) CORRUPTED PART OF HIS INSTALL. AFTER THAT HE COULD NOT JOIN WITH HIS CAR WITHOUT MAKING THE SERVER CRASH.

In this sense I would like to point out the great instability problems of tbis B660. It is inconceivable that it surpassed any kind of stability testing:

- some people including myself have suffered from connection lost issues immediately after joining a server. Usually works OK the second time. Probably ISI does not think it is a big deal but IT IS.

- when rF2 crashes it has been proven that there is a risk of spoiling the install due to files that seem to be getting corrupt. Read or write operations when crashing? I don't know since I am not supposed to know. I am the customer.

- the new car select feature online, would be great if there wasn't such a high risk of "rf2 stopped working". This feature seems to be undertested.

According to my experience B660 is very unstable. B382 was probably the best build so far.

I am terribly afraid of what will come next. I am positive ISI has started to modify things in order to "FIX" multiplayer after they have seen so many peole in asetto corsa online. People hace been complaining about vmod system for ages and ISI has not cared much about it UNTIL NOW. Now they seem to be in a hurry and I know what happens under these circumstances. Things will not be propery tested and will leave this task to the end users just because they are a small company. I dont know if this policy comes directly from Gjon buy it is a fact that ISI does not care too much if they release an unstable build as stable and screws up end users. I would bet that next release will come out with a showstopper bug just because they are now in a hurry to change multiplayer. Pathetic.

ISI has been working on improving vmods for at least 6 months (Remember when they first made mod registration optional, that was prep for auto vmods). Things don't happen overnight. I seriously doubt AC has anything to do with this.

Doubt that as well, its a given a new sim/game will get lots of exposure when it launches, everyone jumps in to try it out. It will settle down at some point and then we will see how much remains.

But even if that was true, its good no? different platforms pushing each other, that will benefit us all in the end. i'm sure other sims are looking into realroad as well now for example, making their platform better in the future.
And onwards it go's for Mutual Learnings of Studio's for Make Benefit of Glorious Nation of Simracing.

Things take time as you both say and it is good that different simracing titles push each other. However, all the testing should be properly done before releasing it to public. When new things are added proper updated documentation should be released: New realroad technology is not properly documented: we still have the same track technology pdf which was released before rf2!
When they implemented the features to download content they didn't either properly explain how to do it. The packaging pdf has not been updated either.

You might be right that ISI has been trying to improve vmod system for 6 months. What I know is that meanwhile they screwed mod manager for two consecutive versions of it. Some things that worked before don't work now. What did I win with this? I tell you: nothing. So why include something if not ready? Registering vmods: never had a problem with that except for the build that they messed up and some people couldn't register vmods.

The way ISI is developing rF2 is a good example at many levels of how things should not be done. Tim promised several weeks ago that things would change. I will believe that when I see it.

As Noel said things take time to change. I just dont believe that ISI will change the way they are doing things in just one month.

When next build releasing process starts again we'll see if I am right or wrong. I would bet mod manager will still not work with updated vehicle components. I would bet that less than 4 days between unstable and stable releases are provided for customer testing.

Yeah its a mix of high's and low's, I find myself raving about it one time and then trying hard not to come here and get myself banned because I am fed up with it all and need a vent :-)

I think we are just going to have to accept ISI works in a certain way, not very communicative or helpful on info, and then all of sudden things make more sense then ever and its like a whole new sim all together and we all shut up for a while because its so amazing.
Until....

And on that note I expect things to change in a positive way with the upcoming core changes. yes its hard to stay positive all the time but we should not forget there are also many reasons why we are still here. fingers crossed :-)

Because in terms of simulation, it is the best sim by far IMO and because we have no real alternative. However one thing does not exclude the other.
