I understand the community fracture, but that already happens with URD mods for example, if you're truly a rF2 fan you'll buy it for sure, that will be no problem for rF2 usual racers. I personally don't like that much the GT3 cars, but i bought the pack straight away just for a supporting question...

Steam also does a lot of discount from time to time, there's no excuse to not spend 5€ or something on a pack...

I dont understand why some people try to split between not having a dlc but can race against other dlc'lers. can i do this in ac? afaik no. rf2 community is small. so for me there is no question about buying this dlc to support the developers. even if they made a tractor dlc i would buy it. would the dev team be much bigger or would have a big publisher in the back, i'd understand raising question about not having a dlc but compete dlc'lers. with a team this small complaining about this is just ego trippin.

Considering the situation from what we start with an already fragmented community:

I would suggest that if cars can be purchased individually they should be allowed to race individually against any other car. This would be a positive thing.

Any vehicle DLC content should be installable and testable in order to make it easier and more fair the decision to finally purchase it. After let's say xx hours the content would be blocked (greyed preferably) in the car selection menu but could still be used as an opponent offline and online.

S397 could have released only the full pack for 15€, but decided to offer cars individually. Why? So simple to answer: they clearly think that this fits best with their current economical policy. This does not necessarily mean to maximize overall earnings. Short term vs mid term earnings needs to be taken into account.
If I have to bet I would say that they are pushing short term earnings sacrificing mid term ones. They could have sold the 5 cars at 5€ the piece one by one but they would not have the money that they have today from the pack offer.

However, if I am not wrong, at the moment you need to own a car if you want to use it. This is not the right move in order to avoid fragmenting the community. It leaves the decision to leagues to force a driver to buy all cars. Cars by the way that are supposed to race together. So this situation that will occur with GT3 pack was bound to happen.

Actually if you are going to use Enduracers prototypes and want a chance of bigger grids, using a GT3 car list instead of their very old GTE is a better thing to do ;) (except for the tires, Enduracers tires are pretty awesome for short leagues with tires 2x the strategy variation is fun)
Most people drive offline, that's where you make money. Spliting people online is a terrible idea. I've seen people having to sit out in a league using Assetto because the guy missed only one DLC (he had all the others), this is stupid. It's hard enough to get people online devs shouldn't put more obstacles to it. Thank God the S397 guys are smarter than part of the community. No offense intended.
Hopefully they'll allow people like URD to sell items in their store, that would be even better if we don't have to buy what we dont want to use in case it's being used in a league.
For example: some people have no interest in a SGT car that is basically DTM. Why force them to buy it if they won't use it and will be in a GT3 class instead? The only thing this does is strenght piracy

I'm fine if it's implemented in a sensible way. I don't personally like a bunch of unused cars on my HDD, so the approach of AMS and other sims is wrong IMO to force us to download all DLC content. If S397 finds another solution to this, I'm very interested and it's a win win of course, but I think it will take time.

The only way I see this becoming an issue with the GT3 cars is if people buy the cars individually rather than the whole pack, as @SPASKIS mentioned. Multi-class racing is a minority of minority, I frankly don't think it has much impact on fragmenting of community.

In my opinion someone who bought only the McLaren will be annoyed if when the Bentley comes out all the public servers start using the duo (which should be the most normal when you own both) and cannot join a public server. He would probably feel being forced/persuaded/pushed to buy Bentley if he really wants to race online in casual servers. After having bought the first item individually, it is still a dilemma how to buy bentley. Another 5 euro? Or should I now go for the pack losing my initial 5€ investment. Nobody wants to lose it causes frustration. The taken approach will for sure cause it among those only buying McLaren.

As I said rF2 is not in a position where it can afford losing more online players.
Summer has ended and while main competitor starts waking up reaching its own records rF2 starts to drop to lowest figures in almost one year.

Whoever who doesn't realize the big problem rF2 is facing at the moment is because he just doesn't want to see.

Any kind of community fragmentation is bad, no matter the size. Things in online racing are a snow ball, be aware of that.

As it has been debated for years, the online "problem" is lack of an organized activity with official content.
As soon as there will be a simple way to find and join public servers, and to keep track of performances, interest in being online and to populate such servers will rise. The problem of multyclass racing is pretty marginal I think.

I have been monitoring all the public servers for a while at 20.00-21.00 cet. There are from 1 to 12 guys online and the rFactor 2 lobby is like a ghost town.
I was hosting public server with the MClaren when worlds fastest gamer event was going on current tracks and same settings as official server and there was only five drivers who did join the server.I am also hosting F1_1979_Official_Server and the last 60 days server has six hit`s.

This situation is caused by all the admins who are not able to figure out how the get mod service is working and if they do there is so much content that you are using hours to download and when you enter the server there is only AI`s to find or that the server is impossible to join.
I know that somebody is going to replay to this post claiming that leagues are doing fine and sure some are but the reality is that also many leagues are struggling to keep it going on becourse of the lack of interest and rumor rFactor 2 has. I know a hole bunch of leagues which are not active in rFactor 2 anymore:(.

The only rFactor 2 public activity is going on the discord canal where people are yelling to get new UI, road map etc. and when you like to disgust something regarding rFactor 2 you are often interrupted when some peep posts pick about banana pizza and starts disgusting about all kind of food. There are no worries about public community fragmentation pizza discussion is going on 24/7.

For the record, I was able to download the McLaren 650S before purchasing it.
Of course I couldn't drive it but once purchased I already had it installed and need not download again.
I'm personally almost certain they will allow for the content to be downloaded regardless of purchase.
Doing otherwise would be a huge mistake imo.

Secondly, I would not trust the community in balancing out the cars unless it's some sort of high profile league with top level drivers, and then again it will take time and plenty of tracks for a fair evaluation.

Thirdly, people will ALWAYS complain about BoP, that's unavoidable.

I find it a strange decision though to update the ISI Camaro to be able to race against these cars.
Not having to purchase the whole package to participate makes sense.
Being able to participate in the actual GT3 class without owning any of the cars in the package is more controversial for me.
And the Camaro is no longer a thing, should not really be racing against these cars.

Balancing the Camaro is another issue, there will be no incentive for people to buy the new cars if the Camaro is very competitive so they will have to make it at least slightly underpowered otherwise they will be shooting themselves in the foot.
Also it was supposedly created by ISI using real data so they will be practically turning it into something less realistic in the interests of promoting their new GT3 pack, if they indeed decide to rebalance it.

I don't think people choose a car or buy a car instead of another just looking at performances, aesthetic, sound, car history, etc. etc. all play a role. It's not just a matter of lap times.

That goes without saying and I do not think it changes anything, my point still stands.
If you think otherwise, that it would be OK for the Camaro to be equally competitive to the rest of the GT3 pack then you can just say so.

What I say is that they don't need to change downward it's performances to increase sells of other cars.

Imo it's good if individual car owners can join, actually it's very important that they do. Rf2 can't afford not allowing this. People would still buy the other cars too because they want to drive them. I want to believe that car performance is less important than other factors. I would think after they will do b.o.p for Camaro that we have two different versions of that car. And allowing free Camaro users to compete with dlc owners can't be a bad thing in the long run. More players online will bring more players to the game and more players means more income on dlcs.

:D The pizza talk was fun the first time, now it's just boring, people repeat that every day lol
League have problems because there are (or were) too many trying to run the same cars at the same time. But you can still find a rather decent amount running 25+ cars. Here in Brazil you can find paid leagues starting with 30+ cars
There is something strange about rF2 upcoming competition system tho... one of the roadmaps said this will be available for "sanctioned leagues", looks like not every forum will have access to this then, I suspect they want to reduce the community fragmentation what could be a good idea.
