Rfactor2 The VR thread -settings & tips

wow...complete waste of time trying to achieve a decent output on VR...can t get framerates above 30...read through this thread and implemented the advise given...back to AC until next build I guess.

Thank you Marc and Andy

Next question, anyone running ASW always on? I can run high settings and ppd 2.0 with it on, was wondering what if any the disadvantages might be compared to running minimum settings with it off to hit 90fps?

Mirrors are an fps hog
Is there a way to reduce reflection distance ?

Think they can move with head as there is a line in the .JSON file but again it will increase PC load

The mirror angle adjustment seems broken. ( ctrl or shift + seat move keys )

You can find a value for rear view mirror clipping in same. JSON - not tested if it works for VR though.

I always run with ASW on Auto as it takes care of itself if it can perform at 45 or 90 fps.

Not using cloud cover ,
Clear blue skies until clouds optimised

Yeah, noticed that too yesterday.
Clouds and not-yet-optimized tracks seem to result in the biggest fps drops in VR for me, it’s unplayable for me then.
On the other hand with Mills, Indycars and clear sky everything is perfect for example.

Did anyone get major performance issues IN THE MENU?
I have a 1080Ti and I can run the actual driving part with constant 90fps (disabled reprojection) with low GPU usage but the menu will stutter like crazy. Motion sickness crazy.

FPS drops to 11 in the menu then recovers somewhat to 30-ish in game.

Has anyone else on vive found that async reprojection kicks in when its not needed? With async ticked, it interferes a lot. Turn it off, and i don't drop frames. It isn't working as intended

Nobody have the same problem as me using Oculus Rift.
"I don't know it's a bug but when i'm in the garage -general, the UI don't show the square with the relation of the gears, is black and if you pass the stik over the numvers of the gears only you see the white file with rpm and line with km/h. Is imposible for me make a setup Car."

Various glitches with the UI including flickering & mouse not lining up

Apparently the new UI is close to release which sorts all this

I don't want to turn off reprojection or anything like that

If one has settings set well within limits it's fine , I'm getting a fluid smooth experience now using conservative settings

I had the same findings after installing my 1080Ti - so I just turn it completely off. I very rarely go below 90fps (mostly just in Elite: Dangerous) and I can live with the minor stutter when that happens. Having Async on would actually lower my fps.
I don't go below 90fps in either AC or RF2 - of course, that is with careful selection if in-game and supersampling settings.

Just re-iterating, with the Vive, always on reprojection still runs at 90fps:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comme...n_reprojection_looks_way_better_than/d8237fx/

It's interleaved reprojection that's awful and drops you to 45 fps. Valve did a very poor job naming and explaining things.
Agreed, it should be called something like late-update or early-submission reprojection.

But this has nothing to do with the fact the async reprojection has a cost even at 90fps and is causing performance problems on high-end PCs which don't need it.

Side mirrors on my F1 car add 4ms on average to my CPU processing frame time. Turning them off takes it down to 5 ms on average. With mirrors on, i'm close to frame drops (9-10 ms). Can we have some mirror quality settings?

Thanks for that info ice
-wonder if there's tweets in the .Json file ?
Agreed though some options like:

Shadows in mirrors
Mirror detail ( low med high )
Mirror view distance

Be good to have an "almost off" option so it's dirty/misted but can only see low quality cars for ultimate fps saving & will still look good as mirrors will look dirty
This would be a clever thing to add
