Rfactor2 The VR thread -settings & tips

As moon8trx is asking is there anyway to reduce the brightness using the Rift the glare you get driving at night to me is quite unrealistic and very off putting would help if you could reduce the brightness.

When you say glare are you referring to Post Effects? Or headlights?

What cars and tracks are you using?

I've run at night with some official content with no such issues in the rift and with PP Off.

No it's the track side lights when you drive through them it's like you driving through glarey mist/fog
Enduracers LMP3's at Interlagos and VLM Sebring PP is off it was in online races the past couple of weeks at RD someone else using Rift said the same.

Tried VR again after a long time and was really happy to see how much improved the graphics are as it looks pretty good now.

However after a couple off long sessions I felt really not very good from VR sickness and is due to not being able to Lock View to Horizon. I tried a few suggestions I saw on this thread and used the Real Motion Head Plugin which I fiddled with the settings for a long time, at least 3 or 4 hours, but although this works well on the 2D screen I could get no benefit in VR as it still moves too much for me.

I guess this is a very personal thing as most users seem able to adjust in VR to that motion but for me it feels dreadful and once the onset of VR sickness begins it takes a long time to shake it off again. Hope it does get sorted by the devs one day and they find a solution that suits everyone.

Try leaving the oculus tray tool SS at default, then restart your machine and make sure not to load oculus tray tool. Then only use SteamVR SS and see if that works ok.

Does anyone know how to turn off "asynchronous spacewarp" permanently.
I disable it in the oculus debug tool but it keeps turning back on.

Edit: Pressing Ctrl / numberpad 1 seems to have turned it off.

Can I just check how you do this in SteamVR? The only SS setting I have found is under 'Developer' - Enable advanced Supersample filtering. Or are you referring to the application resolution adjustment?

SteamVR -> Settings -> Applications, then choose RFactor2 and the desired SS amount. You can also do it in the 'Video' tab but that will over ride everything so I tend to leave that alone as I have other Applications with different amounts of SS. As I have a Rift I untick all the boxes in the Developer Section as they refer more to Vive use, I did experiment with them a while ago and determined that unticked was best but cant remember exactly why.

@MarcG Thanks for the update, so you are referring to the Application Resolution Adjustment. I have 'tried' different settings for this, but have to say that I have not noticed anything really change. What should this setting actually do [I am aware that the each eye render setting changes, but...…]

It makes the picture "clearer" and less "blocky" in simple terms, try a high setting then a low setting, if you see no difference then something isn't working somewhere.

@MarcG - Tested at 52% and then 250%. Saw no difference in graphics, BUT at 250% my TM wheel was going mad with FFB. Felt like I was driving over a very bad cobbled street. Houston - there may be a problem!

Leave that at default then and try Oculus Tray Tool, sounds like something is messed up somewhere on your system.

Edit: Don't go thinking it's a massive difference because its not, a simple way to check is to look at your FPS when you've set the SS high then again at Low, that'll tell you whether the SS is working as it should....or pay close attention to Text on Steering Wheels HUDs for example.
