Rfactor2 The VR thread -settings & tips

Try running c:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\Bin32\rF Config.exe? I get 4 warning dialogs pop up then the video config screen.

Edit: better is to open a command window and
Code:
cd "c:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2"
"bin32\rf config"

It runs without warning dialogs then.

Thanks Seven Smiles .... when I try running the "rF Config.exe" file in the Bin32 folder, I get the following error message:

The code execution cannot proceed because D3DCOMPILER_43.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem"

I do see a d3dcompiler_47.dll in the same folder but not a d3dcompiler_43.dll
When I try to run the rFactor2.exe in the same Bin32, I get the same error message.

When I go to the Bin64 folder and run the rFactor2.exe file, it runs the program as I usually see it but still with the same issue as above when I hit the "Video Settings" - cursor changes to the spinning icon for a second .... then nothing happens.

I should add I am running a Windows 10 Pro system.
Intel i7-8700 CPU @3.20GHz 3/19GHz
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080

You could try running the directx dxsetup.exe to see if it installs the missing dll, you’ll find it in your support/directx folder.

On my PC I find D3DCOMPILER_43.dll in many places except rFactor. Probably the most important are
C:\Windows\System32\D3DCompiler_43.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\D3DCompiler_43.dll
"Reinstalling the program may fix this problem" but in this case maybe copy
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\tools\steamvr_environments\game\bin\win64\d3dcompiler_43.dll (the same as System32 one strangely) and
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\bin\vrwebhelper\win64\d3dcompiler_43.dll (the same as the SysWOW64 one)

Hopefully someone can help me --- I use SteamVR with my Vive Pro.
VR used to work a few months ago (I didn't use it much during the summer months) and have now started sim racing again and have updated all the apps/programs to the latest editions. Every time I try to start RF2 it comes up with a message saying that RF2 does not support VR ??? It used to .... now it doesn't ???

I used to be able to start the game and then go into VIDEO SETTINGS and then choose between regular, Oculus, and OpenVR (or SteamVR) .... now when you hit that button nothing happens. I have tried Beta v1117 (latest Beta version) and it still does the same thing. When you start the game with SteamVR running and my VIVE Pro on ... after you start the game a pop messages says RF2 does not support VR.
Is this a SteamVR issue ?
I used to love this game in VR when I was playing it last spring.

Hope someone can help,
Thanks in advance,
Bruce
Hi,
i get this message (RF2 does not support VR) when i mixed up the starting procedure; so you first have to start the launcher and only then start steamVR (dont start it before you've startet the launcher), then start the game via launcher (single or multi).

Yup. That's how I do it.

For rift S with

i7 9700K @5ghz
16 Go DDR4 4000 mghz
GTX 1080 overclocked

I use these settings, good graphics and good performance :

- Supersampling (open VR) : 120%
- Post Process OFF
- AA level 3
- Nvidia control panel : maximum quality ( lod negative CLAMP, high quality textures, no filtering optimisations....)
- detail track + details textures + detail cockpit FULL/ULTRA
- Shadow HIGH (no shadow blur)
- EVERYTHING ELSE OFF.
- Auto detail FPS : activated and max FPS.

Without AI and sunset -> 99% time : 80 FPS
With 61 AI and sunset -> oculus ASW, playable.

Lol
I have the rtx2080ti
i7-8700
16GB
And I’m struggling..!
I’m tired of rfactor2 bad performances.

Me too.

I only found these magic parameters a few days ago, after 6 months of huge problems with the performance of rFactor 2.

I am also REALLY fed up with rF2 optimization problems.

Tried this sequence as you guys recommended. Start the RF2 Launcher, then start SteamVR, then choose Single player ..... still the same result for me. Only plays on my triple screens. Hitting the Video Settings still results in the cursor turning for a second or two and then nothing. Plays fine on my triples. Trying to copy the D3DCompiler_43.dll file into both the Bin32 and Bin64 folders next to see if that makes any difference.

Ok... I will test it, but damn it’s really frustrating that the rtx2080ti can’t run rfactor2 with ultra setting and steady 80fps !

Does anyone know why road reflections in wet conditions are dodgey in VR and is there a way to fix it? I can't find any info on this anywhere but the wet road reflections are just buggy (reflections popping in/out and double or triple vision of them in the wrong places etc) and unusable which is a shame because it looks a bit naff with them turned off.

Since SteamVR got updated to version 1.9.xx, rFactor 2 doesn't show up in the application list in the settings, so I no longer can alter the game-specific supersampling for example. Is this a known issue or I have some local problem here?

rF2 appears in the list when you launch the sim, try win+D and then changing to steamVR settings. It worked for me.
