Rfactor2 The VR thread -settings & tips

I finally bought the Index.
But i only bought the headset and one station.
I only use for rF2, then don't need another base and the controllers.
This is a way to reduce a lot the price.
I'm very happy with them but you need a 2080TI in rF2
I think it's not possible to get the most of it with the current graphic cards.
It's a headset for several years

If they say you need a lot of graphics and PC, I'm still waiting for Pimax but I will take advantage of the CV1

I also play with the idea of getting an Index.
Is the solution so good that you recognize the vehicles from a distance? And is the cockpit completely sharp and recognizable?
With my PC and the Index are the 130 degrees FOV hopefully well feasible with at least 160 SS.
I'm afraid my PC will be down again.
The limit has already been reached with the CV1 at 180SS.

And do you notice the bigger FOV compared to the CV1? Or is the difference barely noticeable?

The Pimax should not be good on the quality. Anyway, I read that more often. And the 200 degrees FOV creates no computer at the moment .. unfortunately

The sharpeness at long distance is better than with the Rift and the cockpit is highly sharp. Completly? It's very subjective. What is good for me can be bad for you. The quality is better in a screen, then it's not completly sharp. And the reality is sharper than any screen...
I don't notice any difference between the FOV of the Rift and the Index. You'll have the best FOV with the Pimax.
With rF2 i can't use the 144Hz (I7-7700 ant 2080TI).
Some friends say that with 144Hz the difference in smoothness is verry big. It's in other sims, because they neither can use 144Hz in rF2 with 8700K and 2080TI.
I'm using 90Hz and 100SS-130SS, depending on the circuit and i'm happy.
Is there a big difference between the Rift and the Index in these conditions? No.
But it's almost impossible to get the most of the Index with the current computers in rF2.

I continue at work and i'll finish too late today.
I think that can't use the sim until sunday night.

Take a look at the thread that i linked before.
The Iron Wolf said very interesting things about Pimax.
I know a few people that are very happy with the Pimax 4K and 5K.

Hi there,

Just bought an Oculus Rift S, and i have some, i guess stuttering issue ?

Its like a mini freeze every 2-3 secs, only on RF2 and Iracing, can't figure out why and this drives me crazy :x

No matter what graphical settings, even with 50% perf headroom (trough OTT monitoring), i can see the 80hz constant, with those lil drops to 75/77, resulting on mini freezes or looking at some objects/part of the track doubling for a millisecond, its not how smooth it should be pretty sure ! (coming from an HTC Vive 2 years ago, had no issues at 90hz)

So yeah doesnt matter the settings, ive tried lots of things on my hand, and it happen even while standing still not moving at all on the track :(

Looking trought forums, i guess it could be related to USB issue ? should i try get an PCI-express USB card ? im not sure ...

Perhaps see this link :

Same issue with or without ASW :(

Some constant lil drops/judder below 80 (high or low settings with lots of perf headroom), even not movng at all on the track,

OTT reports a Motion photon to latency at 35ms, pretty high and seems about normal for the Rift S i guess ? i probably just cannot stand it. (was lower on Vive, and felt more smooth, no judder at all)

This post definds exactly what im experiencing ; https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/bs7wjo/rift_s_headtracking_jitter_and_high_photontomotion/

After all I've read read, I would prefer the Index of Pimax. A sharp picture is more important to me.

But there is another interesting candidate. The HTC Vive Pro Eye. This supports eye tracking.
This means that the software keeps track of your pupils and only sharpens the point of view where you look.
The rest remains blurred. This relieves the hardware immensely.

Unfortunately, there are two negative points.

1. rF2 currently does not support the technology (Project Cars 2 yes) and
2. it's costs arround 1400 €.
But in my mind that's the future.

That's why I'm split a bit.
Upgrade to Index or save the money and wait for this technology?
Most of the time, patience pays off.
But on the other hand I would like to have a new toy :)

Is this a problem?

I use the Oculus Rift and have seen many posts re freezes, USB power etc. I have noticed for some time that my Rift connection is not showing as USB3. It shows as 'Connected' and further investigation as USB2. My Rift is connected via a separate USB 3 card [as recommended by Oculus]. The sensor is also connected via the same card and shows the connection as USB3.

My question is - is the Rift connection a problem and is there anything I can do to change this? TIA

Can someone remind me how to run rf2 with the Rift (non-S) without needing to fire up Home (I.e. the Oculus app)?

I was running fine for a year until something killed it this week. I've downloaded and installed the latest Oculus files and can now run normally - but I didn't have to before...

I have been using OpenComposite in place of Steam VR but this makes no difference to the startup. (When I fire up rf2 the screen mirroring shows that the Rift is being tracked, but I have the old black screen in the HMD).

I *thought* that I had moved away from the v1.0 Oculus runtime workaround, but maybe not?

Apologies for the repetition - can't find the required info. quickly in this 109 page thread!
