Hi all! Please tell me, since when did rf2 become connected to the Internet? Why can't I run my simulator without internet? Purchased vehicles are not listed. And when loading a single-player game, an error appears and rF2 freezes completely! ♂️ And this worries me very much, what will happen to rf2 if suddenly the developers refuse to support it and remove it from Steam?
If you don't have Internet, you can choose the offline mode in Steam. AFAIK this is how Steam works and isn't related to rF2.
This error occurs if you unplug the Internet cable, turn offline mode in Steam and launch rFactor2 single player on any racing track. If you connect the Internet again, everything works fine again. And also, all purchased cars disappear from the list!
When I race offline I don't go to steam and stop it or go to offline mode, I just start rfactor2 normally and will get a message that I am offline and do I want to proceed anyway, I haven't done it in a while and will try it shortly, if anything comes out of it I'll add to this post, maybe try not going to steam first. EDIT: Well it doesn't work, I thought when I first got rf2 I didn't need to be online, this was before I started racing online, that was maybe a little more than a year ago, maybe closer to 2, maybe it changed in Feb 2023 when the online client thing came about, there seems to be a problem with authentication when offline. Or maybe was it this: https://www.studio-397.com/2023/10/...erience-for-rfactor-2-powered-by-racecontrol/
I just made a new post. Or maybe was it this: I joined in july 2023 and the below is in october 2023 so thats why I was able to race offline for those months before october. https://www.studio-397.com/2023/10/...erience-for-rfactor-2-powered-by-racecontrol/
I just tested this. I unplugged my PC from the internet (wifi adapter) and booted up my computer, then I started Steam. Steam automatically started in "offline mode". Then I started rF2 from desktop icon (like I always do) and rF2 started up fine. I loaded a DLC car (mini cooper) and a DLC track (Nurburgring Sprint) and everything loaded and worked as normal, except for a bit of menu lag because rF2 was trying to authenticate my RC account. But all in all I was able to play offline successfully without a internet connection. EDIT: From the video you put on youtube, it looks like you went from online to offline in a way I have never seen before, and when is the last time you restarted your PC? If you want to run offline, reboot the PC.
@oikworld I also tested it and i have all DLC Cars and Tracks in Offline Mode available too. In the Video, i can not see how you go offline. When i go offline, i use the Steam Client Setting, to do that. Click on "Steam" in the left Top Corner of the Client and then set it to Off- or Online Mode with the 3rd Option. That works for me, without any Problem.
You mean, if i stop the Game first? I do it before i start the Game or after i've shut it down. It makes no Sense to switch between online and offline Mode while the/a Game is running.
I was just asking because I hit go offline and nothing happened, I didn't want to stop rf2 just as a test. Just didn't stop it to avoid a problem happening, when it comes time to race offline I will do it. Thanks
I also have issues with Steam. It always asks my password, and rF2 freezes in Authenticating in top right. If for some reason some content is not validated properly when internet was available, i think you can get that kind of issue. For example, i unsubscribed from a workshop item and i had to restart Steam and Game a few times to get full authentication and download/install of the item. If i passed offline before that, i would probably have some content badly installed or not completely installed. There was a problem with content on Steam a few weeks ago. I think there is still something going on ... https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/4339860355402668096/
The fact is that if you do not completely disconnect the Internet from the computer (for example, disconnect the adapter or completely unplug the Internet cable) but simply enter the steam offline mode, then everything works fine and the paid content is loaded and no errors are displayed. But if you try to run rf2 completely with the Internet turned off, then the above problems arise.
Correct, I used to be able to just turn on my computer with the internet turned off(wifi off) and I used to be able to use it, after the October 2023 online deal that I mentioned above started, now I can't get past the Authentication without the internet on.
That is why i did say that i can not see how you go offline, in the Video. When i complete disconnect my PC from the Internet, i also see no DLC anymore. That is one of the Reasons why i don't like Steam, besides of many others.
Wow I thought only RRE was the offline no internet troublemaker not good for me because when I visit my in-laws no internet port in my room and their wifi is terrible So not only RRE but now RF2 will be on my black list there really not cool
AGAIN, I tested this and it worked fine. NO INTERNET CONNECTED to my PC. Copy and paste from post #6 "I just tested this. I unplugged my PC from the internet (wifi adapter) and booted up my computer, then I started Steam. Steam automatically started in "offline mode". Then I started rF2 from desktop icon (like I always do) and rF2 started up fine. I took the wifi adapter out of the USB port, my PC had no internet capability at all. Must be a mistake on your end.
Yeah I can confirm that works here as well, always has. Only con if you can call it that you don't get workshop updates.
I think they are not turning off their computer. Or even closing and restarting Steam. Changes wont take effect unless you reboot.
@Johnny Speed Would you accept, that it works differently for others? You have to accept, that Things are working different for different People sometimes. It doesn't make any Difference if i reboot the PC or not BTW Disconnecting from the Internet takes Affect immediately, no Reboot necessary, but i rebooted it, just to check it. When i'm disconnected from the Internet, there are no DLC Cars availabe anymore. Maybe it's a Steam Setting somewhere or the used rF2 Build (i'm on the Build with the former DevMode, because the DevMode in the default Build is corrupted) or whatever. Or do you maybe have, besides of your WIFI Adapter, another Connection to the Internet still "plugged"?
I asked the same question in the official drive and the answers there were also divided, some work and some don't. Can one of the developers tell us what this depends on?
