Rfactor2 Dedicated & RF2 Crash

Hello,
I'm having a problem with RF2, which no longer launches after rFactor Dedicated is activated. It worked perfectly fine 6 months ago, and the only thing I've changed since then is upgrading to Windows 11. Creating mods works fine; I don't get any error messages. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

Is this with the dedi on the same machine? If so try in this order, close steam, start dedi, start steam, start rF2.

Hello, yes it's on the same PC. I tried to do as you indicated, but it didn't change anything, RF2 still doesn't launch...

You need to open RF2 in Steam 1st then alt/tab to the desktop and open the dedicated server 2nd. If it's on the same machine it is the same as running two instances of RF2, so if the dedicated server is open, Steam sees it as if RF2 is already running and won't open it.

As Goanna said, you can open the server without steam running or starting, avoiding that issue.
Also means you can restart rF2 itself without having to restart the server…

Hello
Thank you for your replies and sorry for the delay in responding, but I was on vacation without my PC. I tried launching RF2 and then the Dedicated server, but I can't access the latter's window. It appears with Alt+Tab, but disappears when I try to click on it to launch the server.

I get something similar if the webui ports on the server and game are the same eg default is 5397. When the ports are the same (and starting server 1st, then steam then rF2) rF2 hangs on the screen below and I have to AltF4 to kill it, which also kills the dedi server. I changed the webui port on my server to 5396 (you'll find it in the server's player.json file) and all is good with the world. Check yours (in the player.json file in both game and server) and if they are the same change one and then see if the Close/exit steam, start server, start rF2 works.

Looking at the structure from your previous screen, it doesn't look like a typical rF2 dedicated server install.

I'd suggest reinstalling the dedi server via steamCMD.

Just one thing to check before reinstalling, I'm assuming you have a shortcut on your desktop (or elswhere) to start the server, if so right click and select properties and check where it says it's installed.

Ahhhh, it’s the ingame dedi, I’d assumed that it was a steamCMD server, my bad. I’m thinking that if it’s all in the same rF2 structure then nothing special (port wise) required then it should work, perhaps a verify game file in steam will sort the problem.

Actually, this morning after three consecutive starts of rf2, I was finally able to access the dedicated window and launch it, and the mod I created appeared correctly in the server list. I don't know why it didn't work with the first or second start of rf2. ...
