It has to do with reflection. If you turn off the reflections disappear. Google Translator!

running 198 and trying to update to 240, which does not work for some guys here. is there a way to update in successive steps, as it seems there have been builds in-between.

Build 198 has a bug and autoupdate does not work.
But you can download build 240 lite installer and simply install over the old build.

Workaround for now is to set reflections not higher than low.

    hi guys,

just started getting nasty microstuttering on build 240

vsync on and off, gtx660 and frames capped to 60 on Silverstone during daylight running

been running smooth as anything up until now. FPS still showing 60 but its really nasty stuttering

shadows max, road refl off, env refl low

i did just update to new Nvidia drivers, but it was stuttering before that anyway, i was hoping the update would cure it but not!

any ideas what might be causing it?

Lower shadows. Should help. Env refl even on low are quite hungry. Try switching it off and lowering shadows. If it doesn't help come back and we will figure sth out.

I've switched them off and have 7gb ram in the machine so hopefully not running low on mem

Shadows didn't have any effect, in fact no graphical changes made any improvements. I might roll back to the prev nvidia drivers just to see what happens.

Seems odd to have just started all of a sudden after being fine for ages.

It also happens on other circuits too so it isn't just Silverstone

Same problem here, too. Tried everything. Waiting for next release or even skip a few releases if no consensus on improvements.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT, FRAPS MIN/AVG/MAX ISN'T ALL THAT USEFUL... RESULTS AMENDED AGAIN... DOH!

FWIW I've just compared B156, B198 and B240 with C6R v1,42 at Limerock v1.43, 24AI plus my car at back of grid doing a formation lap. For the B240 test 'Transparency AA' was set to 0.

VRAM values 'GPU D3D DEDICATED MEMORY' as reported by HWiNFO64.

Only a few things to note, B198 VRAM usage around 20MB more than B156 and suffered from more frame spiking over 2nd half of lap (ran test again, same result). B240 with ENV. REF. on HIGH also showed more spiking over 2nd half of lap.

CPU usage was just under 50% around most of lap until going through final corner and run up to the starting grid where it peaked at 80% (B156/198) and around 65% (B240).

GPU usage was pretty much pegged at 99% all the way round (B156/198). Whereas in B240 it was hovering around in the 90's (80's with no AA) and only hit 99% through the last corner and up to the starting grid.

    24AI, i5-3570K@3.6GHz, GTX470@650MHz, 20CARS VISIBLE, AI CONTROL, W764P, 8GB RAM, 1920x1080

    Code:
    CIRCUIT DETAIL - MED
    PLAYER DETAIL - FULL
    OPPONENT DETAIL - MED
    TEXTURE DETAIL - FULL
    TEXTURE FILTER - x16
    SPECIAL EFFECTS - LOW
    SHADOWS - MED
    SHADOW BLUR - OPT
    MOVIES - OFF
    SUN OCCLUSION - ON
    RAIN DROPS - ON
    ROAD REFLECTION - OFF
    ENV. REFLECTION - ON
    WIND/CROWD MOT. - OFF
    VISIBLE CARS - 20

    ANTI ALIASING - LEVEL 4
    HDR - OFF

    1% Frametime: 18.55 (54fps)
    0.1 % Frametime: 22.05 (45fps)
Above results amended because Mr Dozy forgot AA isn't set in PLR file and B240 initial tests were done without AA, apart from a bit more VRAM and GPU usage, FPS didn't seem to suffer much. Also FRAPS min/avg/max doesn't really tell the story despite what the results say, so more info added from FrafsBenchViewer.

Heres what I had to do Tim. I tried going back to B228 and it didn't help my framerates. I was running Windows Pro 64 bit and I was actually seeing some weird digitizing of web pages so I figured maybe something else was wrong. Went back to Windows 7 Ultimate and I have my framerates back. Getting my 60 fps I was getting @ Silverstone now.:)

So it was a fresh windows, I do not think you can conclude it was the OS version.

Why did you not buy Home Premium it is the " best sim OS" because it does the same job and is cheaper ?

I tell people rather then fight issues for a week do a fresh rF2 Lite and / or a fresh OS. ( Take a few hours to get sim ready ! )

People get trapped by a mindset that OSes are too hard and too much hassle to redo , they have no experience you need to have done many installs to get the most from a OS to determine what works with what best.............

I know people here have same OS for 2/3 years, what a mess, how could it possibly run near its potential.

But without fail every time you suggest a fresh OS you will get some nob knows better popping his trolling head up and saying that won't help at all.

Same as on W7 release .............most "experts" said you need Ultimate or Professional for Gaming tower ......................

    HOGWASH :)

Mate, I have people bring PCs to me with XP on them that have NEVER had a fresh OS, seriously.

Your "average all round user" brings old W7 tower to me they don't even know where the disc is so there goes 3 years. lol

Used to be a great throw away line for someone to diss fresh installs mate and not just trolls I talking people with better knowledge of sims then I.

" It wont solve anything, it will take days, my OS still runs fine after years " Give me a dollar every time I heard that one.

You see simmers that can't find this disc or that or this one is worn out don't you ?
That is your "average user" ;)

Same as telling people Parted Magic is only way to bring a well worn SSD back to factory speed, which in turn means you need a fresh OS or to image / clone................ which immediately turns off about 90% people trying it.

LOL ... there was a point 10 yrs ago or so in the F1C days where I was reinstalling xp once a week... had it down to about 2.5 hours... everything reinstalled including games etc...
On an SSD nowadays its stupid fast... easiest and best way to keep good performance...

reminds me of the tech support story I heard years ago where the customer had called in and after 45 mins the tech support realized the customer was waving the mouse around in the air and didnt have it on a surface...
