Thanks for the screenshots Tim, the track detail looks great, makes the circuit look (and presumably) feel 'alive'! Edit: Just realised this was discussed in another thread so feel free to ignore. I don't like being critical of screenshots cos they are 'only' screenshots, however, the only thing that looks a little strange is the road/tyre interaction in some pictures, mostly with the historic class cars. The tyres look like they are compressed too much, as though there is no pressure in the tyre or the sidewall has no stiffness, or the tyre itself is punctured. Perhaps it's just the camber of the circuit, the angle of the camera, the shadows - I'm not quite sure. But as we know, the those historic tyres were as stiff as a board and didn't compress much at all. These pictures best highlight what I'm speaking of: http://rfactor.net/web/rf2/screens/wipscreens/rfactor-2-historics-belgium-01/ http://rfactor.net/web/rf2/screens/wipscreens/rfactor-2-historics-monaco-03/ A few real photos http://www.brianwatsonphoto.co.uk/FormulaOne/66/mediafiles/181.jpg http://www.brianwatsonphoto.co.uk/FormulaOne/66/mediafiles/186.jpg http://b.f1-facts.com/ul/a/2649 http://b.f1-facts.com/ul/a/2652 http://b.f1-facts.com/ul/a/2670 http://b.f1-facts.com/ul/a/2689
Yeah, doesn't seem worth it this close to the beta. The complete set of media we've been given since 3 years ago would take less than 15 mins to 'beat' once we get our hands on it. Just hoping the beta is as close as we think... since it apparently wasn't at the start of this week.
Thanks for the Screenshots Tim, looks like rF2 will be an awesome racing sim. I have not been excited by any 60's series mods or sims since Grand Prix Legends. rF1 is very good but is about to become a whole lot better in this new version. I realize this is much more than an open wheeler sim but OW's are my favorite. Hope you all had a good Christmas and new year. Cheers....Slick
As I feel like I've been saying for 3 years, we're not marketing it to the levels you are probably used to. We were trying to keep you informed and you have screenshots which did that, nothing more. You will absolutely be able to see cool things we haven't shown you and take more screenshots than we have, and maybe we'll even use some of your (unaltered) screenshots when we DO start marketing the sim some more. Also, the screenshot release schedule has never had anything to do with the schedule of release for the software, any connection and rumor with that didn't come from ISI.
I actually wasn't having a shot at ISI at all there Tim; merely pointing out that asking for someone to take the time to provide more media seems futile as whatever is provided will pale into insignificance when we get our hands on the beta. Give us screens today and the beta tomorrow, and those screens don't really achieve much. As for timing, there seemed a pretty widely-held belief that the beta would be here in the first week after the holidays, so that's all I was referring to. I'm aware that wasn't stated by ISI, but the RC being tested over the period sort of leads to that conclusion.
Wasn't taken as a 'shot' but I probably made it sound like I did. There's only been a couple of times when I've even tried to give the community what they asked for because honestly sometimes it was really difficult to get it myself due to us doing physics first and graphics later. Ah well.
People talk about Grand Prix Legends like it no longer exists - it does and has a thriving community and we are still releasing mods (e.g. www.f2legends.net) but the graphics are not great - lol. There is some excitement about rFactor2 and we think the graphics are AWESOME! Is there anywhere that a total newbie can find out the real basics of how rFactor2 works in terms of hosting a league/races? We might just go there... BTW Tim, are you the same Time Wheatley who used to drive with UKGPL? We are still going y'know.
Yeah. I wasnt in UKGPL for long though, but if you have ANY replays of me driving GPL I would love to have them. All hosting goes through the dedicated server app, which is a part of the rF2 installation. But no purchase is required to host. All clients have to have their own paid copy. It's relatively simple. I know some people will stick with GPL even though rF2 is probably technically a better simulation, and we're totally fine with that. The guys actually love(d) GPL and that's why there was the passion to do some of this historic content. There's a lot more historic stuff coming and fully licensed. Once the ball gets rolling and you have a few contacts, it kind of snowballs.
Thanks for the quick reply. Sadly, we seem to have lost the early days replays but I am chasing them so I'll let you know if we get any. We are on Season 22 now! GPL has its good and bad points but ultimately it will die as the O/S develops (touch enabled GPL anyone? a la Windows 8). This looks like a good upgrade route to me and I am quite excited about it. If you want to PM me where I could send any replays we find that would be fine.
I was in that league to... ran about 6 seasons I think. I believe my last season was 11... then I went off to Rfactor leagues and such.
