it's called JPG compression. Hell freezes over when Shum94 has something positive to say about something!

LOL. Yet he is always begging for screen shots and "videos that show the physics". :D

They were uploaded in High Quality, Facebook's option for HD. And were uploaded from the same files uploaded to the Web site. But, thanks.

That was the last of the 'holiday screenshots' we're posting. Hope you enjoyed them (see first post in thread for all links). We'll be back to work fully soon. Hope you had a good Christmas... Happy New Year!

Je trouve les lod trop agressifs. Les prochaines ATI embarqueront 3 Gb de ram.

My uploads on facebook aren't looking that bad comparing to the originals, compression wise.
Anyway it's too bad screenshots at night & rain were not showed.

It should be. It's a part of both the 3.5 and Megane series'.

Thanks for the SS, but night / rain variations screens would be more than welcome, as said before.

The TV screens work. Should look good during race broadcasts :) .

Are these much of a resources hog? Can they be turned off? In RF1 even turning off mirrors gives me a big FPS boost. Hope all this has been optimised for RF2 :)

No, they're no resource hog. Mirrors ... well, they have to render different things than what you're already seeing in front of you, so they will always use resources.

I think it works as most games: On the tv-screen you can see the same thing as what you are seeing. (luckily I notice I made it very clear now :p NOT!)

What you see on your screen is the same as what is displayed on the tv-screens, so if you would be driving cockpit view, then on the tv-screens you can see your own cockpit view.

Maybe anyone can say it in a better way, I don't think I can make myself any more clear than this :p

The jumbotron monitors simply grab the frame buffer and use that as a texture. So, what you see is what's on the monitor. This keeps them cheap. If we had set up a whole new system to grab other camera angles and display those then we'd have to render the scene again just for the jumbotrons--THAT would be a hog.

This is a good compromise--better than static images or a baked video showing whatever car type, this actually shows the current conditions, cars, etc. and, as Luc says, will look great for broadcasts...

So we won't be doing a Vettel and checking jumbotrons to see what other cars are doing, or information we can't already see in the car. (of course, we can see more on-screen info than real drivers, since they generally don't have HUDs :))

We've seen other games do the same thing, and in a way it's a bit disappointing when you see your current view (like sitting in the pits) on the big screens, because it's not realistic... but that's how it's got to be. Unless it gets added as a later option ("Show TV cams on jumbotrons - warning! CPU killer!")

I would love this as an option; some current hardware could handle this easily. Perhaps making this an option is another story altogether, though.
