Hi! I have not succeeded in getting rFactor 2 to start successfully. Currently, the graphic configurator crashes. When started form Steam, there is a short delay after hitting the "PLAY" button and then the "X STOP" button turns back to the "> PLAY" button. When started from CMD.EXE or Windows Explorer, a window pops up that says "Failed to load advancedeffects file".

I have deleted the UserData folder. I have repaired all four runtimes. I have rebooted. I have uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled. The game itself also crashes. The last several lines in the trace log:

    Code:

Do you have rivatuner or other graphics related tools running? They can stop the config operating correctly.

I don't have Rivatuner or any other graphics tools running. I also tried whitelisting the directory in Microsoft Defender, as suggested elsewhere in this forum, with no effect. Neither rf Config nor rFactor 2 start.

Try to start the rF Config.exe (it is in the Folder ..\rFactor 2\Bin64) by a Shortcut.
In the Properties of the Shortcut (rightclick on it), in the Field "Target" use:
    "G:\Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\Bin64\rF Config.exe"
and in the Field "execute in" use:
    "G:\Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2"
and click OK to save it.
You of course have to replace G:\Steam\steamapps\common with your Path. :)
    Then doubleclick on the Shortcut.

That also doesn't work. I have a shortcut with "Target" set to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\Bin64\rF Config.exe" and "Start In" set to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\". Double clicking the shortcut gives me an hourglass cursor for half a second and then nothing.

Check, if the File Config_DX11.ini exists in the Folder
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\UserData
and that it is not empty.

Update: Another uninstall/reboot/reinstall cycle, plus the following, and rFactor 2 is running.

    https://forum.studio-397.com/index.php?threads/weird-resolution-problem.75593/#post-1143110

To summarize the above forum post for posterity:

Make sure your decimal separator is set to ".".

Settings > Time & Language > Language & region > Administrative language settings > Additional settings > Decimal symbol: "."

How did that ever get changed in the first place??

    Thanks everyone for your help.

Well done on finding and trying that, I'm (obviously!) familiar with that fix but wouldn't have guessed it would help here :p

Ah I should clarify that. I don't think the decimal symbol issue was related to my problem with rF Config. The final uninstall/reinstall fixed rF Config, allowing me to configure the graphics. Then, when I started rFactor, it presented the start menu at the incorrect resolution, and I fixed *that* by setting the decimal symbol setting.
