I don't know how difficult it would be able to do, but would it be possible for you guys to implement a benchmark into the game or launcher. Just having it in the launcher would be nice. You select the graphics options you want, and it loads up rFactor and right into a track and car (Classic Formula @ Monaco, the best looking combo). It "drives" one lap around the track recording the lowest, highest, and average FPS. When it finishes the lap it closes the benchmark and outputs a text file with the graphics settings and recorded FPS's. Plus, you could have it output any other sort of data that would help the developers see if there are any problems. At least this way you can see who is having problems in a more detailed accurate way. Other than me coming in here and saying "I have x gpu and I'm running at x settings and only seeing x FPS at best". Something more concrete. Plus, it is a good way to see in the future if any drivers give better performance and so forth.
This sounds quite useful for charting how different hardware combinations would perform as there is quite many kind of hardware it is impossible to test all in the house so developers would get quite quickly good view of how their software is performing. I like from the idea.
It only seems logical. The majority of new PC games (not bad console ports) have some form of benchmark utility. It allows users to get the most out of the game by accurately testing different configurations.
just an idea... and not even sure if its possible.... but why not even have a benchmark tool that sends the info of your hardware and results back to ISI.... could help with the optimization and problems being reported with FPS and stuttering issues
Having a 'standard' replay should work, though. Someone post a representative replay in a dedicated/sticky, and we post our results.
