Not tested, but in the player.json, try
"Self In Rearview":*,
and
"Virtual Rearview In Cockpit":true,

 

I find this annoying too. Especially in F1 cars.

I didn't know that you use vr.
With that i can not help you, because i don't use it.
I get seasick from it.
