Really different tearing/stutter problem??

Long story short. The first time I play Rfactor 2 I have flawless baby smooth game play. Like orgasm smooth. BUT, the second time I play the game, and thereafter, I get all the horrible tearing/stutters that infuriate race simmers. Both times I still get 60fps no problem.

Here lies the question: I have deleted/re-installed the game 4 times and the same thing happens again. 1st game play=smooth. 2nd and after= tearing/stutter. WTF?

I have the 60fps capped in the player.json file, 60hz monitor, AA off, AF 4x, and Vsync off (tried vsync on and didn't fix problem, nor did changing any graphics settings). My cpu/gpu bars hover around 30-40%, occasionally get to 50%.

Before you say "just delete/install every time," I really do not want to do that. :/

What are your system specs and OS? Latest version of rF2?

-Win 7/64bit with all recent updates
-Core 2 Duo E8400 overclocked to 4.18Ghz (I know, old, but it's still cranking with low temps)
    -8Gb DDR3 Ram 1800Mhz/cas 9
-GTX 460 V2 with 2.8Gb Vram with latest drivers.

    Latest build of rf2

    At 720p I get 100-120fps. All settings maxed except Circuit Detail-low, Environment Reflection-off, Movies-off, Replays-off, Spotter-off, HDR-on, AF 4x and 21 AI.

I had the same problem. Solid 60 fps but the game wasn't smooth. I reseted all the options I changed in NVIDIA controller. Now rf2 is running smoothly.

    What options you have?

I don't Know what the settings were before. But now all settings are standard/default in NVIDIA system controller. Now its smooth. Ingame settings are all maxed out. Do you use the NVIDIA system controller?

Ya I use the NVIDIA controller.

When I reset I get this:

    Ambient Occlusion/off
anisotropic filtering/application controlled. (Off in rf2)
    antialiasing fxaa/off
    antialiasing gamma correction/on
    antialiasing mode/application controlled
    antialiasing transparency/off
    CUDA-GPU/all
    DSR/off
    Max pre rendered frames/application controlled
    Shader Cache/on
    Antisotropic sample optimization/off
    Negative LOD bias/allow
    Texture filtering/quality
    Trilinear optimization/on
    Threaded optimization/auto
    Triple buffering/off
Vsync/application controlled (doesn't even work in game unless I change it in NVIDIA)
    Virtual reality pre-rendered frames/1

I don't understand. 100+fps and it looks like crap. Vsync on it looks like crap.

Finally! I figured this game out.

    Here are my new settings:

    Ambient Occlusion/off
anisotropic filtering/application controlled. 16x in game
    antialiasing fxaa/off
    antialiasing gamma correction/on
antialiasing mode/application controlled level 4 lowered resolution to 480p but with AA on it looks like pretty freaking good. Might try higher since my gpu is only 30-40% load.
    antialiasing transparency/off
    CUDA-GPU/all
DSR/ 2.00X This looks good too and helped with fps
    DSR smoothness/ 13% personal preference.
    Max pre rendered frames/application controlled
    Shader Cache/on
    Antisotropic sample optimization/ on
    Negative LOD bias/allow
    Texture filtering/quality
    Trilinear optimization/on
    Threaded optimization/auto
    Triple buffering/ on
Vsync/application controlled in game: set to Video this made the biggest difference.
    Virtual reality pre-rendered frames/1

Also, I found out I had a faulty stick of ram which was causing the the stuttering. When I swapped that out saw a difference. It's an old rig, but I get the most I can out of it.

Thanks Nitrometh. You gave lead me in the right direction. My original nvidia settings were all jacked up.
