Went to Queensland Raceway today and took 1054 photos and video. Had the track to my self, and walked everywhere. Great reference photos......
Yay! After a bit of drama, I have QLD working in RF2. Just very basic textures but ready to build upon View attachment 2859
This is the good news Mike and i give thank you for sharing your work. This will now count the two Ozzie Tracks as i have helped the test of Symmonds Plains from Axe for I see is almost finished .
OK. I see where this is going now....sort of haha!! I am going to use very hires photos and also blend with the shader. Lots to learn but I think it will look OK. Somethin else I will do is soften the corners so there is a more gradual curve, not blocky stuff. View attachment 2863
Superb stuff Mike, I know nothing of track making so cant help you in anyway other than full support of your project!
Hey...nice to see your wip growing up.. Some suggestions; Try to keep the correct aspect ratio for maps; 1:1 / 2:1 etc... I suggest you to use spline loft for painting decals (like those white paints) instead lines merged into the road texture. In this way you can control the FF response for paints area, and you can use different alpha vertices values for paintings...getting a more realistic result. Prepare your terrain mesh for edge mapping, avoiding those linear cut between different grass/sand/gravel materials. Wait for a almost complete terrain modeling before starting with the terrain mapping (you can use T1 placeholders), as you've to use planars projection on same channels for huge areas...and mapping step by step, area by area, get you the risk to have a lot of terrain discontinuity and speculars/bump issues, when you've too many different projections applied to the terrain (Ie: edges in contact with the main grass with different projections). Try to think at your terrain as a huge painting canvas; wait for a complete design before applying colors and details. Go Mike!
Thank you guys for your encouragement!! I want these two tracks to be much better than they were in RF1!!

Now I know how to get the grass looking OK with the HiRes photo underneath, I can start mapping the whole track This is how the real track looks, so I will have a 4k map and use it to map each terrain section. Any adjustments neede to the big map will be done in photoshop. In summer this track goes brown and dead up to bright green if it rains a bit. It will be how I saw it last week, in between the two extremes. View attachment 2886
or you could just do Summer & Winter versions joking dont worry, can imagine that might take a lot of extra time to do!
I'm with Grubby. Best racing I've ever had was RF1 and a bunch of down-unders. Tough tough tracks. Clean racing. Looking forward to the likes of Wawick Farm. Phillip Island, Eastern Creek, Wanneroo and Adelaide Int;. And I'm from the states on the other side of the world.
This is a great site for historic photos of the 1960's cars at Lakeside (and other circuits) Lakeside at one point had only a few armco areas. The rest you ended up in a paddock!! http://www.autopics.com.au/search.mibiznez?action=search&ctgid=&page=1&searchProductCode=on&searchName=on&search_type=AND&searchDescription=on&searchTerm=Lakeside&sortby=product_code
Nice work buddie hope all works out and cant wait to drive on it . it funny hey coops that some people act like kids even when they have kids . lol world is full of cats and alot seem to say meow. cats
Love this old photo, the start of the 1966 AGP; The main straight is very different from now (it is still in the same place). There is no armco and the banks are a lot more obvious than now. Just so different. View attachment 2914
