Once again some very simple but effective skins: Joest Racing Camel Porsche #7 and #8 from the Kyalami 500 KM 1987

Hi, glad you like it. Maybe let me explain a bit how I am propably going to do this. I started getting a bit more into the GroupC mod again testing it at Brands Hatch a couple of weeks ago. For some reason I didn't really like how the AI behaved so I started tweaking them a bit so that they can complete a race without too many problems. At the same time I also started creating the menu icons for the cars in the mod and for a few skins created by other talented people like @Highlandwalker, cleaned up the categories and skin files a bit and made the skin descriptions in the UI a bit more standardized. That alone was quite a bit of work as there are over fourty or fifty skins in the mod now. At one point I thought I could add a few skins so I started skinning.

My theory is to create something like a community update to the mod and add my skins and some other stuff. I also would like to fix a few other things like the backfires not rendering properly but I haven't really looked into that yet. So one way or another you will get the skins as I don't see any reason to show them but keep them private. I plan to do packs in chunks of ten skins wich means that you will propably get something within the next two weeks. I am not sure if I will get permission from MakCorps but I think they would be fine with it. For the next batch I allready have a few more IMSA skins planned like the different Bayside skins, but they are pritty tricky with thin lines running over the whole car and the template not being setup too well for that. Anyway, finished skin 9 of ten of the first batch:

So one to go and not really decided wich one to do as there are hundreds of 962 paint schemes and basicly anything looks sexy on that car. My favorites so far for the next car are the Primus Porsche or the Havoline Dauer Porsche from Daytona 24 Hours '91. Maybe any wishes for something particular?

Certainly a long job creating the icons for all three cars, I've done it for my version it took quite awhile. You probably already know that the naming convention for the windscreen has varied with different versions of the mod. I have found making the shading level a little brighter in the template improves the look of the skins, some of shadows look little dark for me. I love the Valvoline skin. Thanks for compliment, appreciated.
Here's the last skin I did for the Porsche.

All the 962 skins are for the Mak Group C mod as there is no other version of that car available. S397 mentioned in one of the interviews that Group C cars could be an option in the future but I am not getting my hopes up too high as Long Beach was just too much great content for years to come, even - let's be honest - a Group C mod for a studio that is so tied to Le Mans should be mandatory. :p

Sadly, very good Group C cars in racing sims are very rare. AC has very good cars, but running endurance races in that sim makes as much sense as running Group B cars in rF2 and the AI is crap. AMS2 cars are decent but they drive very wierd and the sound isn't as good as for the Mak Group C mod, wich is strange considering how old this mod is. For some reason their sounds work fantastic with the new sound engine. And eventhough I think that the VLM mod for rF1/rF2 is the best Group C content ever created, the models sadly show their age a bit.

Is it okay to be working on this?

It was a different time, okay?

Not every russian is the same, right?

Oh yeah and points towards the person who can guess: year and car/race(s)

    That's right!

Hopefully not forever... I need to finish up some F430 and C6.R privateer skins and then we can discuss what could be done with the set...

Back in the day, when you bought a Porsche 962, could you modify it to your liking? These days the homolgation is so strict, one would think the Jota Porsche will be an exact copy of the Penskes. I remember in Champcar(CART/Indycar) they used to even design & build their own turbos as only the pop-off valve was controlled by the series or the Indy track itself. How far could owners of the cars back then push away from the factory spec?

Sorry for the late response, but I kind of missed your post and did the Primus and the black Havoline anyway as I couldn't decide between the two. Regarding your wish I can do the skin for the second batch, but there is actually a Blaupunkt Porsche in the mod that looks very similar. I actually try to add some new colours to the grid and do some of the iconic skins that weren't in the mod yet. The thing with 962 skins is that they basicly swapped sponsors from race to race so there are thousends of different paint schemes. The Blaupunkt paint schemes alone would keep me busy for months. Anyway, here are the last two for the first batch:

The more the 962 went into privateer hands, the more teams found different solutions. I remember when the mod was released the modding team couldn't decide wich 962 to take as a baseline. For the black Havoline, wich was actually a Fabcar they produced their huge spoilers in cooperation with F1 teams like Arrows. You also had different configurations like the GTI and teams like Dauer and Kremer produced very distinctive custom models. The Kremer Porsches with the side skirts or the Dauer Porsches from the mid 90s don't look like the early cars from the mid 80s at all. It's also very interesting when you skim through the different models how they found detail solutions for various issues.

Having these great skins grouped in someway like season or race series/year would be brilliant I know how much work it is so anything you release would be appreciated I think

It looked even more insane in reality with big pipes for cooling on the sidepods and a big F1 rear wing. The more I think about it the more I come to the conlcusion that the 962 would be the perfect car for S397 to showcase the upgrade functionality similar to how Chieff created his "Lego" mod. The 962 had everything from different tire brands, wheel caps, rims, front spoilers for street circuits, huge rear spoilers or low downforce wings, long tail and short tail versions. The list is huge. Anyway, got something new for the update. This time no Porsches and nothing too fancy, but something that allways bothered me a bit about the mod. Finaliy correct skins for the Sauber. The first two are for the WSC 1990 and the four other skins are all cars that raced at Le Mans in 1991. I might add the T-cars or some C9 skins to make the grid a bit bigger.

I too always thought 962 (official) would work great in rF2.
