One easy and clean way to install the beta separately :

Optionally copy your main rFactor 2 installation directory ("C:\...\Steam\SteamApps\common\rFactor 2") to, for example, "C:\...\Steam\SteamApps\common\rFactor 2 DX11". If you omit this step, it will do a new install, so 17Go more to download and non workshop mods not installed.

Remove directories "Bin64/Plugins" and "UserData" from this copy.

Download and extract where you want SteamCMD: https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/client/installer/steamcmd.zip

Create a shortcut to steamcmd.exe (place it where you want and name it like you want), go on the properties of this shortcut and add the following options on the target path, after "steamcmd.exe" (with a space after exe):
    +login your_steam_login your_steam_password +force_install_dir "C:\Path\To\Steam\SteamApps\common\rFactor 2 DX11" +app_update 365960 -validate -beta v1108-dx11-open-beta

Run this shortcut, it will update to the last beta version without downloading the base install, but it will probably download again the workshop items even if they are installed and in the cache directory, I don't know why and it can be quite long.

Then, you have to use "rFactor 2 DX11/Launcher/Launch rFactor.exe" to launch the beta.

You can of course copy some files of the UserData directory of your main install to not have to configure everything again, like "player/Controller.JSON", "player/Settings" or any custom preset of the "Controller" directory. You can also copy back from your main install the dll of non display plugins in Bin64/Plugins, like the plugins for CrewChief or SLIMax.

Run the shortcut again to update the beta and the workshop items, steam won't do it automatically.

To remove the beta, juste delete the directory "rFactor 2 DX11".

Nothing change at all for your main install.

Of course, you can simply copy your main install to a "rFactor 2 DX9" directory before switching your main install to DX11, and optionally use the same method to manually update the DX9 version. You'll probably have less workshop items to download with this method, but I prefer to have a clean main install and make tests with alternative versions.
