Hello everyone, You can view and vote here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=329960337 Hopefully you can see this as the first positive step that it is. A wider audience seeing rFactor is a good step for us, and for the wider community. We will try to gather up popular questions over the next few days, but please be aware that in a lot of cases we won't yet have answers. Some issues we will only know answers to when it comes to tackling what needs doing to support this process. Thank you! Tim
For the love of everything holy and good in this world...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent move ISI. But I'm left wondering why it's taken so long? Being the only sim not on Steam makes rF (and rF2) feel like they've been held back from a wider audience and potential new sim racers. Here's hoping rF2 follows.
Say goodbye to your plugins and mod specific installs. This will split the community, with a large majority of the ones left that matter sticking with the non-Steam version so that they can actually use and distribute what they want without Steam's bloat getting in the way.
Done and done. The best of luck to ISI! This is exciting for both rFactor and rFactor 2 lovers alike.
Couldn't be farther from the truth. We need to put up a petition to STOP this. Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
Installing mods and plugins doesn't need to change, the game can still use its own tools and launcher, you just need to start it through Steam instead of desktop shortcut. Infact, you can make a desktop shorcut which will run the game automatically from Steam. Take Skyrim for example, it uses it's own launcher, you can mod it however you want with third party tools, you don't need Steam for anything else just for starting the game through it. There is Steam Workshop, also good thing for newcomers, easy to browse and install mods and plugins since it's very automatic, but if you don't want to use it, you can always install mods or edit config files without Steam, the old fashion way.
As said before, i'm not a fan of Steam for reasons i will not go into again. Having said that i see the pro's of it for ISI as company and for us as community. I would have voted yes because of that where it not that i have to have a steam account which i will not make. I'm going to make a steam account when rF2 gets on steam because than i have to. Won't give up playing this lovely game.....oops SIM Best of luck with this ISI, i hope it brings lots of new customers
Supported of course! I've never had any trouble with Steam, don't understand what all the fuss is about..
Voted for it, even though I already got all my copies of ISI games I need. If you are going to put rFactor 2 on Steam as well in the future, just make sure it is not mandatory and only optional so we can keep our slick standalone version of rFactor 2.
Done Edit - I'd like to point out that if it weren't for a copy of rF1 in the box with my G27 I may never have discovered rFactor. I want others to discover and enjoy it too, especially since IMO it is still #1 and even if/when next gen sims surpass it it will always be relevant because there will always be mods and tracks you can get nowhere else.
