Photoshop Problems. Help please.

This isn't directly a rf2 problem but maybe somebody may be of help. I run Photoshop CS5, the problem is when I try to edit some of my old skin templates it CTD but if I start a totally new skin it seems to be stable but I haven't completed one yet because of spending hrs working on a skin it may CTD. I've never had this problem before, I have reinstalled Photoshop but it didn't cure the problem. I get no error messages. I had a windows update recently, I don't know if this has caused the problem. Photoshop works perfectly when editing photographs. So I was wondering if anybody else has had problems with Photoshop recently. Any help would be greatly appreciated. So there probably won't be any new skins until I can get it sorted. I tried Gimp but I just can't get on with it. Thanks.

I used to run CS5 and had quite a few issues like yours, opening image files. CS5 has not been updated in a long time. I recently updated to the latest version and no longer have such issues. There may be a work-a-round for your problem but, that version is quite out of date while the OS updates have continued to evolve.

Thanks for your reply, I'm afraid I just can't afford the monthly subs for the latest version. What I can't understand why it's only some of my templates that cause the problem. I have no problem editing photographs, jpeg or tiff files and Nikon raw files. Personally I hate not actually owning software. Thanks again.

I completely understand and also don't like subscription services in general, as they are not always worth the cost for those of us that use them on a limited basis. In my case, I use PS for some work projects so, it's easier to justify. But, either way, we don't actually own any software, we pay for the license / rights to use it. Still, I get your meaning.

I have design software costing many thousands of dollars (using a perpetual license) but, it's constantly developing new issues because it does not keep pace with other system advancements. More and more bugs occur over time, so it's really a double-edge sword and can become a "pay me now or pay me later" scenario.

I took the plunge and updated PS to 2022 version, still got problems. The nvidia dds plugin does not work, so I installed the Intel dds plugin and it only works occasionally. I can load a dds file but cannot save a psd template skin file as a dds file. I was wondering if any body else is having problems with the latest version of PS. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I hate adobe.

I have solved my problem with PS 2022, you have to save as copy instead of save as. Both the nvidia and intel dds plugins work now. With PS it has always been save as to bring up the file types to save, never used save as copy before. Still don' like paying a monthly sub. Hope this may be use to other people.
