SOLVED PC Win 7 startup problems due to USB devices?

I'm looking for help from some of you PC savvy guys...

I'm having big problems booting up my PC.

Yesterday it started randomly "looping" during the boot-up phase, right around the time it usually detects the connected USB devices (where my wheel recalibrates itself twice, my external soundcard switches on and off, etc.).

It goes past the first screen (where the ASUS logo is shown) just fine, but then it more or less comes to a halt during the black screen with the little blinking underscore "_".
Then a couple of different happens: either it goes on to the "Windows is starting" logo and then quickly auto-reboots the PC. Sometimes it goes to the "repair startup" menu.
If I then choose startup repair, I sometimes have luck reaching the windows login screen (where it then takes about 20 secs before my USB mouse and keyboard respond!).
Other times it just reboots over and over.
This is quite nasty indeed. It took me 5 or 6 tries to get the PC running just now.

I'm suspecting it has to do with my recent installation of either the T500 drivers, or the installation of my old G27 H-shifter (which is connected via a Bodnar USB adapter to be a stand-alone device).
I installed both devices this Wednesday, no problems there, or on Thursday. The problem then suddenly shows up yesterday.
I've tried updating the firmware for the T500, no change. I've also tried disconnecting it before startup, no change.
I've tried rolling back my system to Wednesday, but my change.

If anybody has any ideas, It'd be much appreciated.

It sounds to me like a windows corruption or malware infection issue, but it's only a guess. My first step would be to start in safe mode and then run an antimalware scan (if you have access to another computer to get this kind of tool)
Anyway, I didn't understand what happens when you try to roll back to wednesday, it fails? If so, you could try it when in safe mode, after scan finishes

Startup repair appears because last boot attempt was unsuccesful, you don't need it anymore (you already tried but did nothing)

byyyyyyyyye

I have had that random bug before, I bet everyone has at least once. lool
I had it caused by a loose or damaged storage lead, bad hardrive, bios settings not to mention legendary infinite loop bug lool

I just love this site no names mentioned
Question: " What is an infinite loop error, and how does it affect playing the games ? "

Answer: " If you have the infinite loop error you will know. "
:p hahaha

First thing I would do is shut it down, disconnect all storage devices except primary drive and mouse and keyboard.

Boot.

If that don't work RESET CMOS

Boot.

Run a full disk check on at least C drive.

If you have images ( I guessing you don't) restore your best one.

Fresh OS, I know heaps of people will groan about now but way I do one honestly takes no time at all, but like I said my images are a mirror of that anyways.

Windows or the wheel always went wonky for me if I had a wheel connected during start up even with a fresh install. I just plug in my wheel when I need to use it. Never had problems with my pedals that use a bodnar board though.

I bet its not a bad hard drive, or malware, or "wonky" windows, or random...

Change what you plugged into the USB ports It took me a long-ass time to realize my stand-alone G25 shifter, when plugged into a USB 3.0 port, was the cause of this exact issue

You are absolutely right, Spinelli! Removing the standalone G27 shifter from the USB input on the back of my PC did the trick.
Lol and I was just about ready to reinstall my OS, having to reinstall all my software and yadda yadda yadda... Oh dear. ;)

So are you just using a 2.0 USB input for your shifter? One of the USB ports on the front of the PC for example?

Yup, I just use a 2.0, but on the rear. Sometimes the front but rarely. I use the USB 3.0 ports on the back when I run out of 2.0 ports and only for non-"vital", non-simracing things like webcams, keyboards, mice, maybe Track-IR, etc. As long as they function properly and don't create issues with the 3.0 ports. Ones that do, get moved to the front USB 2.0 ports.

Doh, you never mentioned USB3.0 , never dawned on me ( smack )

I use USB3.0 for thumbdrives, only because I can't reach USB2.0 without getting up. lol
